I think that if this goes on much longer a point could come where Republicans in the Senate will turn on him and tell him they are going to over ride if he vetoes. I think they'd talk to him first. They'd try to avoid publicly embarrassing him. But the Republican Party is getting killed right now and they know it. I suspect a lot of them are really pissed off at him for what he is doing.

Six voted for the Democrat bill today. More will move as this goes on.

That's how we got here - the President will veto any spending bill that doesn't include his wall. Everything that has occurred here, from Congress refusing to fund a wall, to the President refusing to sing a bill that doesn't include it, is a lot of things - a lack of compromise, poor political gamesmanship, whatever - but it isn't an erosion of democracy. Maybe the word doesn't mean what you think it means?

How many times have seen a POTUS fail to follow through on his top campaign promise(s)? “Read my lips” is the 1st to come to mind. IMHOP a POTUS should attempt to follow through on his top campaign promise(s), come hell or high water. That’s what Trump is doing.

If Trump caves now, zero chance he gets any any additional physical barrier along the southern border, & zero chance he gets reelected, leaving office failing to accomplish his #1 campaign promise, whether he decides to run again or not.
Besides, the Border Patrol leadership, past and present, along with overwhelmingly the rank & file line agents, want more physical barrier (course they would like to be be getting paid now).

So Trump has no reason to cave. As far as the donks, they don’t have any reason to cave, as they could care less about border security, they’re up in the polls, and they know if Trump caves zero chance he gets reelected.
So what we have here is a Mexican standoff that could go on a long time..
