I think that if this goes on much longer a point could come where Republicans in the Senate will turn on him and tell him they are going to over ride if he vetoes. I think they'd talk to him first. They'd try to avoid publicly embarrassing him. But the Republican Party is getting killed right now and they know it. I suspect a lot of them are really pissed off at him for what he is doing.
 Six voted for the Democrat bill today. More will move as this goes on.

Reopen the Government first, let the hostages free, and then negotiate. That's common sense, and the American people agree, as evidenced by Trump's plummetting poll numbers since the end of December.

You cant ever let a petulant child throw a fit and reward them for it. Momma Nancy has her pimp hand cocked and ready.
No, that would be sheer stupidity. If you think by doing that he would get any concessions from the donks, or get any $$ for a physical barrier, you must be smoking something. He would have no leverage, get nothing for his #1 campaign promise, be seen as a caver, and have zero chance of being re elected.

This reminds me of GHW Bush and his No New Taxes campaign promise. Dems got Trump in the same situation. He doesn't get the wall, he loses the election in 2020.

Frustrated GOP senators read Vice President Pence the riot act at a closed-door meeting Thursday, telling him the partial government shutdown needs to end soon, according to lawmakers in the room.

Republican senators, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), warned the vice president that prolonging the shutdown is not a smart political strategy, in hopes of sending a clear message to President Trump that he needs to resolve the crisis as soon as possible.

Lawmakers vented their irritation to Pence shortly before six GOP senators defected to vote for a Democratic-backed bill that would open the government without funding Trump’s proposed border wall.

One GOP senator said lawmakers told Pence “the shutdown needs to come to an end, this is not a strategy that works [and] we never should have had a shutdown in the first place.”

How is threatening to veto any bill that doesn't include a wall an erosion of democracy?

That's how we got here - the President will veto any spending bill that doesn't include his wall. Everything that has occurred here, from Congress refusing to fund a wall, to the President refusing to sing a bill that doesn't include it, is a lot of things - a lack of compromise, poor political gamesmanship, whatever - but it isn't an erosion of democracy. Maybe the word doesn't mean what you think it means?

"Erosion of democracy" is a bit end-timey (and inaccurate)

The cracks are growing.

On a side note, I like this user comment under the article:
"Ten years from now Fox News, and Alex Jones will be selling the conspiracy theory that Trump was sent by the Clintons to ruin the GOP."

Also portion of an open letter penned today from the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association:
...Many of our members conduct complex investigations including tracking terrorists, identifying foreign actors, and protecting elected officials, including you and your family. As the shutdown continues they are being put in both a fiscally and personally compromising position that is antithetical to the way our nation should be treating those that protect us...

...Mr. President, we all agree that our nation's borders need to be secured but right now, those we've asked to do so are more focused on how to pay their bills.

Yah, the shutdown is pretty much bullshit, but it hardly negates all the positive things he’s accomplished despite the left’s best efforts.

Sometimes I still can't believe that a man which kinda amused us - yet no one took seriously - didn't only become the nominee for a major party, but won the Presidency of the most powerful nation on Earth.

We're in a strange timeline.

Honestly it's so strange that if tomorrow Trump resigned and revealed this whole thing was a marketing prank to promote McDonald's new dollar menu, I'd believe it.

SCOTUS actually has some cases coming in the near future that could essentially put the entire nation in a Texas-like stance on guns. I am less worried about Democrats with this court than I have been in my adult gun-owning life. That's a sigh of relief.

Me too

One of the last things I’m worried about now are extra-constitutional attempts to make my gun ownership onerous

If Trump caves now, zero chance he gets any any additional physical barrier along the southern border, & zero chance he gets reelected, leaving office failing to accomplish his #1 campaign promise, whether he decides to run again or not.
Besides, the Border Patrol leadership, past and present, along with overwhelmingly the rank & file line agents, want more physical barrier (course they would like to be be getting paid now).

So Trump has no reason to cave. As far as the donks, they don’t have any reason to cave, as they could care less about border security, they’re up in the polls, and they know if Trump caves zero chance he gets reelected.
So what we have here is a Mexican standoff that could go on a long time..
Maybe if it goes on long enough the investigationruns out of gas

On Friday morning, Pelosi and other Democratic leaders are expected to release an outline of their own homeland security plan, which is expected to match Trump’s $5.7 billion figure for the southern border — without a wall.

With public opinion behind her, Pelosi has been kicking Trump's ass. But I do wish the left wing media outlets like MSNBC and CNN would stop gloating about it. Just back off and let Trump retreat while thinking he's saving face. That's the best thing to do.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?
