How Long Will The Shutdown Last? (Dec 2018)
Re: How Long Will The Shutdown Last? (Dec 2018)
Just got word from a client that we can't fly them for work until the shutdown is over, at least not for free or on standby. They're strained right now and can only accommodate paying passengers.
Technically it's in the contract that when we do work for them, we must use their flights if available (at no expense), but we're not going to argue it since we have a good relationship.
This is a major airline btw.

LA Guardia has been shut down by the FAA due to staff shortages.

Re: How Long Will The Shutdown Last? (Dec 2018)
Boom shacka lacka. The Federal Aviation Administration has halted all flights entering LaGuardia Airport in New York due to staffing issues with the airport’s air traffic controllers.
The FAA also says air traffic is delayed at Philadelphia International Airport, Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey and Tampa International Airport in Florida due to staffing issues.
Don't fuck with federal employees.
This is the right strategy though. The general public feeling pain will quicken the end of the shutdown.
After all, general public, the Trump administration and his family feels that your small sacrifice will be worthwhile. Just think of it as a vacation while you sit in the terminal, helpless.

And passenger travel makes up a slice of what airports do. Every single company which sends cargo and shipments through the air is looking at delays and if it goes long enough, stoppages.93henfan wrote:Boom shacka lacka. The Federal Aviation Administration has halted all flights entering LaGuardia Airport in New York due to staffing issues with the airport’s air traffic controllers.

Don't **** with federal employees.
Companies will be brought to their knees as operations grind and the economy will be hurting.

It's also hypocritical of everyone involved. If this were HRC or Obama, trump supporters would be seething right now.

IRS employees are apparently under an agreement where they can skip work due to a hardship. Not being paid is a hardship.
So, you won't be getting tax returns any time soon during a shut down.
Again, general public, just think of it as doing your duty to keep the brown people away.
Did you see? There's a third CARAVAN™ full of BAD HOMBRES® on the way?!?!?! Trump broke that stunning news yesterday. I'll admit, I shuddered! Another one!! Forming up right now!!!!!

Add DCA to the list. Ripple effect now happening, as is usually the case. Average flight delay is now one hour (and will likely increase) out of the nation's capital.

Gradually going from a figurative shutdown to a literal one.Ibanez wrote:LA Guardia has been shut down by the FAA due to staff shortages.
Question: Didn't we during the Obama years basically have a "kick-the-can-down-the-road" bill to fund the government in the interim until a budget (or debt ceiling raising or whatever) can be agreed upon? Why can't that be done now?

Trump wanted to push the issue on the wall. Both sides wanted to score points against each other (i.e. who was standing up to who and who could win). The little people matter little in these games.Pwns wrote:Gradually going from a figurative shutdown to a literal one.Ibanez wrote:LA Guardia has been shut down by the FAA due to staff shortages.

Dems are willing to negotiate once the government is funded. The Trump baby won't have any of that.Pwns wrote:Gradually going from a figurative shutdown to a literal one.Ibanez wrote:LA Guardia has been shut down by the FAA due to staff shortages.

A Federal Statistician I've worked with linked this article on Facebook:GannonFan wrote:Any resolution to the shutdown should include mechanisms to ensure that politicians can't shut down the government like this again. It makes no sense that this can and has happened multiple times across decades. I won't hold my breath that politicians will want to do that, as politicians on both sides appear to be plenty content that this kind of situation can and does arise - all the better to score political points with apparently. But it should be something that gets passed as soon as this shutdown finally ends.

It's Jimmy Carter's fault! Until he rocked the boat by requesting an Attorney General's opinion we didn't have shutdowns when funding lapsed.
Until 1980, there was no such thing as a “government shutdown.” When presidents didn’t have cash, they spent on credit. If Congress failed to pass a budget on time, federal agencies just carried on with work until their appropriated funding was authorized retroactively. But at the end of the Carter Administration one man changed all that with the stroke of a pen.

Yes it's worth repeatedly endlessly until everybody gets it. Everybody with an open mind anyway. There is an obvious legitimate reason for Democrats to take the position that they will not negotiate as long as Trump's extortion tactic is being applied. There is no legitimate reason to keep the flipping EPA closed when everybody agrees on its funding because one wants money for the Department of Homeland Security to apply to a particular purpose. There is no grey area here. There is no legitimate "whataboutism." Trump is clearly in the wrong.Grizalltheway wrote:Dems are willing to negotiate once the government is funded. Thanks, I didn't know the background. Pretty much sums up in a "government is broken" motif.JohnStOnge wrote:A Federal Statistician I've worked with linked this article on Facebook:GannonFan wrote:Any resolution to the shutdown should include mechanisms to ensure that politicians can't shut down the government like this again. Even with this, I think one can make modifications to that and effect what should happen here - we shouldn't have the case where regular, everyday work doesn't continue and isn't funded, even if Congress hasn't passed an actual budget (which grown-ups have failed to do for years now). There should be an underlying passage in every budget that in the absence of a next budget the government doesn't shutdown and it continues at the same budgeting as the current budget unless Congress changes it. It shouldn't be hard to make sure people aren't thrown to food kitchens every so many year just because politicians want to score points.

Let the governement handle your Healthcare............93henfan wrote:I just got an email from my boss.
