The Federal bureaucracy is 80%+ Donk, so it's no surprise that the Donks in Congress want to give them the day off with pay. No wonder McConnell is mocking the idea.

Elections just aren't Luke Darby thing. He needs to stick to subjects more in his wheelhouse like Cardi B, Lady GaGa, and the Spice Girls.

I agree with McConnell. We have enough Hatch Act violations around the workplace in the Fed government as it is without paying us to go shill at the polls.

BTW Federal workers have a VERY HIGH voter turnout rate ... in spite of not getting the day off. Somehow we all manage to do our civic duty on work days because it really isn't that hard to take a few hours off. Just take 12 less coffee breaks or lay off Candy Crush for just one day and its easy.

Not sure. But I would be interested in knowing what would happen if all states split their EC votes based on percentage of election votes. That may flush out the hopeless D's in R states and the hopeless R's in D states.

Most likely not - most private industries don't follow a lot of the federal holidays already, just the biggies like New Years, Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Anything else are floating holidays (unless a big enough manufacturing site where they tell people when shutdowns are and vacations get taken then).

As for voting in general, let's face it, it shouldn't be hard to vote on Election Day if it's done well at the local level - make sure there are enough polling places, make sure there are enough machines, and that should be it. Even where I live it's interesting how things vary from county to county. I'm in Montgomery County (PA - Philly suburb) and generally you don't wait in any line - walk up, sign the book next to your name, vote, and that's it. Whole thing generally takes about 5 minutes, and the polling place is about 5 minutes away. No one's driving more than 5 or 10 minutes to a polling place. Some places in Chester County (county next door) has some local spots where you wait for an hour in line, sometimes more. Just depends on how it's handled locally in most cases.

Why? Isn't that what absentee ballot voting is for? In ND you have 40 days to vote absentee. And you can even fill out the application to vote absentee online, it gets mailed to an address of your choice and you can mail it back. There is even no postage due. The application takes about 5 minutes to fill out and the official paper copy about the same.

You do realize that true voter fraud, on a mass scale existed in the time frame you're referencing?
Also, we used to do a lot of things like eugenics and slavery that doesn't mean we should bring them back.


Currently incarcerated - no. They broke the social laws and that's a punishment. I'm not sure why you think a week is better than 1 day. 1 day seems to be working just fine. Are there cases of other elections spanning more than 1 day? We already have early voting and absentee ballots. If you can't take an hour or so out of your life in the month BEFORE an election, should we really continue to hold your hand for the days after?

We really have to stop catering to the lowest common denominators in our society.

MConnell was correct in calling this what it is - a political power grab by the Democrats. The civilian federal workforce is overwhelmingly Democrat. Ask yourselves what people like Nancy Pelosi would be saying if the GOP proferred this same bill but instead of extending this to civilian workers, they substituted military officers?
