I would've assumed it is overwhelmingly Democrat before I looked at a poll gauging Federal Employee sentiment during the shutdown. But now I'm not so sure. The poll at https://www.govexec.com/insights/report ... es/154014/ is probably somewhat biased because it's not a probability sample of all Federal employees per se. Instead, it's a poll based on a random sample of Government Executive, Nextgov and Defense One subscribers.

19% of the sample is DoD Civilian/Active Duty Military. We know that active duty military tend to vote Republican so that's a consideration. And I think it's reasonable to assume that the 81% of respondents that are Federal Civilian as well as the DoD Civilians are more likely to be characterized by a higher average grade level than that of the Civilian employee average.

Nevertheless, I was surprised to see that 26% of respondents are Democrats, 23% are Republican, and 31% are independent (4% are "other" and 16% are "prefer not to answer"). That's not all that much different than the distribution indicated in the latest Gallup poll of party affiliation. That one has the general population as 34% Democrat, 25% Republican, and 39% independent.

Nextgov is the only one of those that could probably be considered liberal. Gov Exec is probably about 50/50 and Defense One is mostly conservative. Your average Federal worker would likely not be reached by that poll. I wouldn't.

Oh I agree that it's not a poll of the overall workforce. But look at what you said. You said Nextgov is liberal, Gove Exec is 50/50, and Defense One is conservative. It depends on what the circulation of each is but on the surface that appears to be fairly balanced.

Im making an assumption about Nextgov - they are mostly IT weenies.. but they could also be independent IT weenies (think Clitz)

But if we are using a poll that weights Defense One and Exec the results are going to be skewed way conservative comparative to the overall workforce

Oh thank goodness we have you here to clear that up for us...
Never mind what the article actually said, that's irrelevant

What was said in the article is no different than what was said in the other eleventy billion articles written during the last election cycle. Not sure why that is so difficult for you.

I bet the Federal workforce mirrors the general population for the most part. There are probably regional differences as well as many workers would tend to mirror the political leanings of where they live and work.

You’d lose that bet

And you don’t work in the Federal workforce so you don’t know what it is like and have no standing to comment

I can say one thing about federal government jobs...there's only 3 different ways to get a fed job as a white male.
1. You're willing to work a job that's dangerous, or has crazy or inflexible hours, or requires lots of travel many wouldn't like.
2. You've got some very high level of skill (e.g. engineers, scientists).
3. You've got connections.

State government jobs tend to work the same way. Bet you can't find white males at your local DMV.

Because diversity.

I agree with felons, if you've finished your sentence then you can vote.

I'm not sure how I feel about people non-citizens voting, like someone on a student visa.
I meant that we should give people an entire week to cast their ballot.

I can agree that non-resident aliens (like students) shouldn't be able to vote, but I think resident aliens working should have a voice in the government (and they did for most US history).

As for felons, I meant all felons - included incarcerated ones. And speaking of it, we should also work on making slavery unconstitutional. :coffee:

US Government funded campaigns or Russian Government Funded Campaigns?

I'll go with the US FTW.

Gerrymandering SHOULD be eliminated
Dark Money SHOULD be eliminated
It should be easier to register and to vote
It should be HARDER to purge voters
It's common sense to make elections unhackable

It's a great start. Too bad the anti-American McConnell values Russia, China and his wealth over the USA.
