CNN & the like would make you believe that National Emergencies are never used, which is a pile of crap. Since 1979 U.S. Presidents have declared 58 National Emergencies, 31 of these are still in effect today. Clinton used it the most, 17 times.

I'd be willing to bet most of them were for sanctions, disaster relief, barring the US from importing illegal items or working with a foreign company. Things like that and not a construction project. It's not meant to circumnavigate the appropriation duties of Congress when you don't get your way.

And, for the record, I do NOT support the use of a “National Emergency” to build the wall. A) it’s not something to be used to circumvent the appropriations process and B), as SOON as there’s a donk in office, I believe they’ll declare a “National Emergency” and use that to begin doing something like, oh, say confiscating certain firearms and placing draconian laws/rules in place regarding the 2nd amendment....I think it starts us down a slippery slope. Much like when Dipshit Reid used the nuke option and got rid of the supermajority requirement I KNEW it was a bad idea and said so at the time, and now it’s been used against the donks and they don’t like it....this will come back to bite republicans in the ass...I think that’s why so may senators and congressmen don’t want him to do it.
