If you can stomach the elitism - he does speak the truth - in the most annoying way possible
What do you mean.. "somehow"?
That's Maher being Maher - and he's actually pretty funny, but yes the elitism is likely a bit hard to take if you are one of those people living in a town where the mill shut down 10 years ago
And yes he's absolutely right .... fortunately his target audience is the people who need to be changing themselves - namely, people like him
But he exhibits the same anthropological attitude towards people who can be monolithically referred to as white, middle class - even he would shy away from talking about the other 5 billion people on this planet who are exactly like them, only browner
Personally, I have been thinking to myself over the last few weeks that the grievance peddling socialists who hate companies like Amazon are doing what they always do - but in this case if it pushes Amazon out into a place where AOC probably thinks they still cook over a fire after some good ol hunting and gathering, that would be a good thing

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Let's start with the federal government moving things out of DC to some of these other areas. Move the Ag department to Des Moines or Omaha, move Interior to somewhere out west, etc. Something is wrong when the DC area is one of the wealthiest areas of the country.

That's an interesting proposition, but impractical at best IMO. Good article on it...HI54UNI wrote:Let's start with the federal government moving things out of DC to some of these other areas. I think the FBI fingerprint lab in WV is a good example of what should be tried. There are bureaucratic paper pushers that can be anywhere. Leave the big shots in DC.89Hen wrote:That's an interesting proposition, but impractical at best IMO. Not for some agencies it isn’t- State has already shown that huge pieces of the pie can be sent outside of DC89Hen wrote:That's an interesting proposition, but impractical at best IMO. CGFS is in Charleston - it handles all financial dealings for DoS- HR, pay, overseas building, budget, the entire works.
We moved all our domestic visa operations to Kentucky and New Hampshire
Our biggest passport operation is also in Charleston
Heck, we even moved the entire bureau of consular affairs out of the Truman building - and it could just as easily have relocated to Asheville or Knoxville as the three blocks it actually moved
The only DoS people who need to be in DC are the top policy types. Even the Schultz Center could relocate (but it is our most significant brick and mortar facility outside the HST building, so it will stay)
When I was briefly in the arms control an nonproliferation office (Bolton’s old shop when he was A/S), I cleared all the questions for the record for the incoming A/S confirmation in 2009. I also participated in her murder board, and coordinated directly with the Senate FRC offices- Lugar, Kerry, etc. I never once saw anybody associated with the process, and could have done my job from anywhere in the country. But instead, I was living on per diem and TDY rent paid by Uncle Sam in Falls Church. It is a HUGE waste of money

Re: New York wins Amazon HQ2 sweepstakes
The point that I have brought up before is that the only people who need to be in DC are the principals, their staffs, and policy people who need physical access to the Hill and the WH. That’s maybe 150 people at State. Everything else can go to more affordable environs, and some of it already has.89Hen wrote:No doubt, but not the entire agency.CID1990 wrote:
