To be fair, they should express the numbers in inflation-adjusted terms. I don't think they did that.

However, it's pretty clear that even if you did that both of Trump's years in office had higher trade deficits than Obama's last year did.

Not that that's necessarily bad. But given that Trump has made a big deal out of trade deficits it's not good for him among those who have been paying attention.

Unfortunately, Trump zombies haven't been paying attention for about three years now. They live in total detachment from reality. And there are a lot of them.

Actually, I'm not even really sure any conclusions can be drawn from this. Has the fed's monetary policy changed the strength of currency? Have the actual value of exports increased?

BTW, if it sounds like I'm trying to shill for Trump's trade war, I'm not. I'm not even sure that eminent scholars on trade would really know how to change trade policy to benefit us, let alone Trump.

To me you don't need to be a scholar to know the typical person in the US has benefitted from trade as it is. Just look at your flatscreen TV. Look at all the other products you get for cheap because of trade as it is. The idea that people in the US have suffered from international trade as it is is ridiculous.

John,
The Trump rally tool is the Victimhood mentality...

The trade deficit is destroying America / Build a Tariff wall
The Mexicans are taking all the jobs / National Emergency
Climate Change is a hoax being perpetrated on America / more coal plants
Our military is vastly underfunded and inferior / increase spending

The guy has nearly zero policy comprehension
he has nearly zero team building skills
and zero tools in his toolbox other than fear

he's a one trick pony... as it turns out - the only people afraid of him are other Republicans
He has a vice like grip on the party line now and as a group they are terrified to step out of line

Revenues are up not down
Trade war is meh - TBD

I've posted the extensive list of his positive accomplishments a number of times. The fact you're retarded and can't/won't admit that 90% of the list are GOOD things just proves you've jumped the shark in your claim to be "conservative".

As noted before, when we talk about cutting revenues we are talking about cutting them from what they would have been before the action. I know of no reasonable analysis that says anything other than that the government had less revenue than it would've had without the tax cut bill.

See https://reason.com/blog/2019/01/18/mcco ... th-revenue

The Republican Tax cut means less revenue that the government would have had.

BTW the jury is out on all of Trump's regulatory reforms. So much happened on that front that it's hard to keep up with. But there is a reason why we have regulation.

Just an FYI..
The republican tax cuts have already been well documented
and they reduced revenue

I don't necessarily think that's bad...
but they did not increase revenue as originally sold

I don’t understand why elected officials bullsh1t about very basic arithmetic

There is a political case to be made for reducing government revenue but it needs to be made in conjunction with the case for reducing spending.

The GOP failed miserably at the one thing it was supposed to be hawkish on. If fiscal responsibility is out the window thenI don’t have a home except on civil liberties and theyre squishy on that too

Yes, so you’re talking about something they never had. Imaginary revenue. Based off assumptions. Got it. ACTUAL revenue is up.
