What the American Dream was and what it has become is very debateable but our materialism...not so much. His initial post didn’t say what it is, it just questioned the big house and two cars vision.

And then all materialistic and kicking down the ladder behind you apoplectic hell broke loose.

I just don't think 'broken' is the right word. They are what they are. Don't like it, don't live there. I would argue that a shithole city with bad schools, high crime and low cost housing is far more 'broken' than a city that is thriving so much that it has priced itself out of the market for a lot of people.

His initial post talked about what the American Dream was growing up.... so we're talking 10-15 years ago for Trip. Has anything substantially changed in that time?
