Most of my family went there -

Dad went undergrad and dental
His brother went undergrad then into the USAF
My brother went to NCSU for electrical engineering but then came back to the fold and went to law school at UNC. I think he felt guilty

It was the easiest place to go since we only live about 40 minutes up the road from Chapel Hill....

On a related note, literally all the women in my family, both my dad's sisters and my mother and all of her sisters - they all went to Greensboro College.. it was like the dating well for the fellas from UNC.

My grandmother and I were the black sheep. Grandma went to Duke - back before it was called Duke (it was Trinity College). She was insufferable during basketball season...

That is true, though I think there also is divine guidance involved, decisions people make at a fairly young age, can determine many things as people get older.

Seriously curious, but when does something become "divine guidance?"

I suppose if two equally good Christian kids are offered an opioid and one takes it (because stupidity) and the other doesn't (because fear), was "divine guidance" involved for the latter? How about if that one stupid decision leads to a life of addiction, arrests, and death? Why didn't God guide that teen?

Well, all I can say is that I was a complete ass when I didn't get a promotion so I left a very stable, good job to take a very unstable, risky job. I wrote a very nasty letter of resignation because I thought I was way more qualified for the promotion than the guy who got it (and I still think that). But, still, it was a stupid move. Then my very first day on the other job I got a totally unexpected call offering another job without any interview or anything. So I took it. Had that not happened I'd have been screwed. Then entity I'd taken a job with went defunct a couple of years later. But as it was the entity that called me and offered me a job is extremely stable and pays well and all.

I don't know if losing your shit because you don't get a promotion falls into the category of "divine guidance." I must say, though, that my wife thinks it falls into the "God is in Control" thing.
