Justin Amash - Libertarian Candidate for President?

Postby dbackjon » Fri Apr 12, 2019 10:19 am

What are the thoughts from the libertarian gang on here?

I follow him on twitter :thumb:

While I don't agree with many of his stances, I very much appreciate that he is usually follows his beliefs regardless of what the GOP is pushing (ie criticizes/votes the same way whether a Republican or Democrat is pushing an agenda, etc)

Well '93 may not like him as he voted against giving the federal workforce a pay raise. :coffee:

He’s the most consistent Constitutional Congressman we have. Good creds on small government, War Powers, Fourth Amendment, and executive overreach.

The LP would love to have him as its candidate for POTUS, and he’s issued a tease or two in that regard. However, although the LP will have 50-State ballot access, Amash would be lucky to match Johnson’s 3% showing in 2016. I think he’ll stay put. :twocents:

Sasse is generally good, but he wussed out on the “national emergency” vote. He’s up for re-election next year in one of the reddest states around. I think less of him for that vote, just like I think less of John Roberts for his Admiral Akbar vote on Obamacare.

Never heard of him and, though I am registered as a Libertarian, I will vote for whoever the Democrat is in the next Presidential election because I never vote for someone who has no chance at all to win.

Now, if we were to go to "instant runoff" voting I might. But the truth is that voting for someone outside of the two major Party candidates in a Presidential election in today's world is wasting your vote.

Not that votes matter that much anyway for people in most States given the Electoral College system.

You are a **** joke of a libertarian.

No I'm not, especially in today's context in which we have a President with totalitarian impulses in power. Voting to remove such a person from power is very consistent with Libertarianism.

Yet, you just admitted you won’t vote libertarian because voting for someone other than the major two parties is a waste of your vote.

Do you have a SINGLE principle left? :ohno:

You are a total fraud. I don’t believe you’re a registered Libertarian. You’ve probably never pounded the pavement for an LP candidate, much less given any money. Go full Democrat while you still can, you bleeping fraud. Your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries.

If you were a true Libertarian you would vote for the party to help ensure that the Libertarian Party gets enough votes to maintain easy ballot access. Plus a true Libertarian would know who Amash is.

And your wife voted for Trump.

Jon,

I read you all the time. I’m like your fanboi.

It hurts me that you don’t read me too.

There’s a Libertarian Party thread already... where Ivy and I talk about Amash flirting with the LP.

Instead of running a sure loss for president, why doesn’t the LP search out a few districts they could win a Congressional seat in? Having 2-4 reps in Congress would give them more credibility than 7% of the popular vote.

It is the same reason that Bernie runs as a Democrat instead of for one of the socialist parties - there’s more campaign money and assistance to be had

I’d like to see the Freedom Caucus guys like Amash, Paul and the others come out with Ls by their names but I think political realities in their districts makes that difficult

Many of the Freedom Caucus guys have been co-opted by Trump. Amash has been keeping a safe distance from the Meadows-Jordan gang, even if he’s technically a FC member.

I trust "Third Party" candidates even less than Ds or Rs now after 2016.

Yeah they have had a split since Trump was elected. And of course cue the people smearing the actual libertarians because of it

Why?

The Dem nominee is going to be a third party candidate, carpetbagging on the DNC

And you’ll vote for him

So you don’t have THAT much of a problem with it

The "Freedom Caucus" is the worst part of Congress, bar none - full of White Supremacists like Andy Biggs, Louis Gohmert, Paul Gosar, Matt Gaetz, Debbie Lesko, etc. The majority have the intellectual brain power of a two year old, and each make statements far dumber and anti-American than anything AOC is accused of.

Amash would be better served staying far away from them.

Three of them are Congresspeople from Arizona, one from Texas. But then again, FoxNews fixates on AOC, and doesn't show the racist and idiotic crap the GOP does, so you wouldn't know  :kisswink:
