You're not really who I was targeting with that post (*cough .... AZ)
But you make a great point about Finland and a homogeneous population

We have more sub-cultures here in the U.S.
and frankly some of our subcultures are large and defiant

The anti-education anti-socialization movements from our black population
we have a growing anti-science anti-education movement from our fundamentalists

It's difficult to get everybody on the same page
in a nation as large and culturally diverse and free as the U.S.
I'm not denying we're 27th (by their stupid cumulative scoring model) but it doesn't change the fact people aren't flocking to those 26 countries to get their educations and medical procedures done.

No. I'm not even sure you were on AGS when that happened with OSBF.

Point was folks love to bring up 6.93 all the time and it's not because they are sore about. It's actually the opposite. They think it's funny. Like you slobbering over a US bank overhaul using Iceland as your basis.

I guess what I'm saying is that Iceland banks were close to your 6.93 moment. :kisswink:

JSO bailed you out in that thread with the Icelandic singers derailment (god I love CS) or else it would have been an even worse loss for you.

The bolded is spot on.

You need only look at the massive amounts of money Chicago schools got under Obama grant programs that did zilch to improve them. But we can't talk about this unless it's to blame "systemic racism" for the problems with these schools.

Instead, we ignore that problem is with the whole system is broken and as a result we get dumbass policies supported by both major parties like No Child Left Behind and Common Core and the silly idea any kid can grow up to be an orthopedic surgeon if only there's enough enthusiasm and hard work by teachers.

30 years of Reaganomics and establishment thinking from both sides of the aisle.

As I've said many times, human infrastructure is an important investment as well, and one which we've been neglecting.
USA ranked 27th in the world in education and healthcare—down from 6th in 1990
America continues to tread water in healthcare and education while other countries have enacted reforms to great effect.

SCOTTY HENDRICKS
03 October, 2018

The American healthcare and education systems are known to need some work, but a new study suggests we've fallen far in comparison to the rest of the world.
The findings show what progress, if any, 195 countries have made over the last twenty years
The study suggests that economic growth is tied to human capital, which gives a dire view of America's economic prospects.

The concept of human capital has only been around since the '50s but it's become an increasingly popular way of looking at the economic potential of countries. Typically defined as "the attributes of a population that, along with physical capital such as buildings, equipment, and other tangible assets, contribute to economic productivity" it includes things such as education levels, skill sets, and other intangible items that foster economic growth.

While we already know that a countries' average education level is associated with its economic growth, a recent study looking into the growth of human capital around the world over the last 26 years has included healthcare outcomes to the mix. While it was created to help motivate lower and middle income countries to increase their human capital investment, it offers a harsh look at the progress the United States has made over the previous 20; if any.

compared to about 62% for the US.

The above link says only 2% foreign born. A more recent I saw says 3.5%. Either way compare that to about 13.5% of the US.

So if you compared to Finland the native born, non hispanic white population of the US, you’d have way different results.

I can see why the Finns are happy..

Easier for a homogenous society to be happier than a non homogenous one..

And your OP was about education and healthcare. Again easier to be higher in both when when have a virtually 100% native born non hispanic white population. Again compare the health care and education results of the native born, non Hispanic white population in the US to Finland and the results would probably be much closer.

Sigh....

I fucking hate bureaucracy. But I do believe in regulating banks so they can’t take down the entire economy and then get rewarded for bad behavior by receiving a bailout from the tax payers.

You obviously disagree, and that’s ok.
