No ****. Only a total dumbass thinks the current leftard olympics the donk candidates are engaging in is "conservative".
Please. The US is so conservative that our "liberalism" is center-right compared to most of our Western counterparts. And our conservatism is just far-right elsewhere.

Most Democrats are neoliberals and their policies back it up.

That’s true-

And it is significant too

John Kerry lost to GWB because he ran on one premise only: that he wasn’t GWB

There is merit to ignoring the incumbent and presenting your own platform... in Kerry’s case it would have had a marginal effect

But in 2020 it could really be the key to beating Trump.... by not acknowledging him

Trump got a lot of votes among Independents because he wasn't Hillary and if the Democrats manage to not fuckup the primary, always a big "if", their candidate will get a lot of Independent votes just because he/she isn't Trump.

Europe far outnumbers us in legal immigration.

https://read.oecd-ilibrary.org/social-i ... -en#page24

Good article:
https://eand.co/the-american-dream-is-o ... c668bef945
The American Dream is over. This is the age of the European Dream.

In most of Europe — Scandinavia, core Europe, whether Germany, France, or Holland, even in countries that have been historical laggards, like Spain, people now enjoy the highest living standards in human history, ever, period. Even Italians — maligned as the caricatures of misgovernance — live half a decade longer than Americans. Europeans live longer, better, richer, saner, healthier, fuller lives — than Americans, than the rest of the world, compared to what might have been expected just a few short decades ago, when those very countries lay in ruins, and most importantly. In the eyes of history, Europe is something like human society’s most improbable but greatest success.

How did they do it? Well, that is also the story of why America didn’t do it. America chose a social contract based on extreme capitalism. It came to be called neoliberalism. The central belief was that markets are the one single solution for every kind of social issue, challenge, or problem. Now, if that strikes you today as, well, silly, fair enough — just transport yourself back a few decades to Cold War paranoia, and then post Cold War utopianism...

:dunce:  What do other countries have to do with ours?

If you want their type of "conservatism" then move there. The correct (and relevant) comparison is to previous political leanings in THIS country.

 @ leftards trying to compare our political leanings to other countries. Typical broke dick logic.

It's neoliberalism at best.

Liberalism has a specific definition.

Thus what we have is not liberalism. Thus the comparison to actual liberal nations.

I don't know why people keep saying that. Bernie has usually polled as beating Trump in the popular vote. And when he hasn't it's usually been the Rasmussen poll. Yes, we use the electoral college. But most of the time the candidate that wins the popular vote also wins the electoral college.

I just don't get this thing where people say Sanders would have "no chance" to win a general election against Trump when, historically, he's had the edge over Trump in probably more than 95% of the polls that have been taken on the matchup.
It is the same anomaly that makes klam say we are a center left country

People poll much more favorably towards feel good pie in the sky things - but when faced with actually voting for a guy who will increase their taxes threefold and take away their health insurance they will balk

Bernie has a very poor pathway to an electoral victory - red states he can forget about, and he will turn more than a few purple states fully red
I still say he's angling for some influence over the healthcare platform in exchange for withdrawing. He knows he's too old.

Seems pointless as that would only clome to fruition if donks take Congress (which is possible I suppose, haven't really looked at that yet).

But that surely won't go over well with the "Bernie or Bust" crowd.

Just offering an assessment of the prior European immigration comments on this very page.

Bottom line: Europe is so much more welcoming. They're increasingly finding out how welcoming the mud people are that they're letting in.

Yep, whenever I encounter groups of them, in the US, western Europe (last year Australia & New Zealand) they’re not solo, couples, or in small single digit group that you usually see other tourists in. Its usually in groups of 50-100 trailing 1-2 guides with flags. Pushy, chatterbox, with little concept of personell space. And gosh forbid if you get to a hotel breakfast buffet as the same time as them. Like frickin locusts. Uncouth. Uncivilized. One example- at the Louvre, there's a sign for that warns people not to defecate and urinate on the premises. Its only in one language- Chinese..
The author of Planet China says that a lot of westerners think of them as a bee hive with a single mind but thats a mistake - those are the Japanese. He says that the Chinese are actually one billion anarchists. Good book from a guy whose other travel writings include Getting Stoned With Savages and Sex Lives of Cannibals

But that surely won't go over well with the "Bernie or Bust" crowd.
His cause is healthcare and he's too old to be President and his endorsement in the primary would be worth something and the chance at a first world healthcare system would bring his voters out I think. Taking the Senate is unlikely right now but there is a geological epoch worth of time left before the election in political terms.

Would come anywhere close to fruition only if the donks took the WH, Congress with a 60 vote supermajority Senate (just like they had to have and briefly had in order to get Obamacare care passed, because they won’t likely get a single conk vote for single payer). I don’t know what the donk prospects are for taking the Senate, but I know they are a LONG way from getting 60 again. Bernie will likely be dead by the time that happens, if it even does..

Another thing about the Chinese tourists that irks me is that they are monolithically litterbugs. They’ll throw their styrofoam containers and chicken bones on the ground right beside a trash can.

When I’m offshore in the gulf of Thailand you can tell which boats have a load of Chinese tourists because they leave a trail of plastic/styrofoam garbage in their wakes

Koreans are nothing like these people. Koreans are just slightly redneck versions of the Japanese.

That might be unfair of me. :twocents:

But I think we all agree the Chinese are the worst. There are always a large group of them in town and it must be b/c they accustomed to the overcrowding of their cities, but they'll be right next to you. And you can't say anything b/c they don't understand English.

They do understand and seem to respect a push or nudge with your elbow.

I don’t have a problem with the personal space thing.

In fact, people of European descent are actually outliers on this one. The majority of world cultures are not big on personal space, and I have experienced it so much it really doesn’t bother me that much anymore. Asians aren’t the only ones who will be up in your grill. Arabs, Sub-Saharan Africans, Central Asians, etc will all rub up on you.

My problem with the Chinese is as much in how they treat each other as they treat everybody else- with apathy and zero acknowledgement. This is partially due to the face culture. In other societies (like Japan) this manifests itself as politeness to strangers (though they will refer to you as gaijin within earshot). But in China it is taken to its worst endpoint, which is apathy which results in neglect and sometimes inhumanity. Ever see the videos of people in China who get run over in the street, by multiple cars? With passersby not even looking or caring? That’s the Chinese in a nutshell.

They are what the Japanese would be like if we hadn’t beat them like the family mule and then gave them baseball.
