Re: No doubt, America needs universal health care
I'm not surprised. And that's fine, but I don't believe we were endowed by our Creator to receive health care. I suppose you could say "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." However, I would argue they did have a life, and we will all lose ours...no one get's out alive. It's unfortunate, and I'm not being harsh. My wife and I donate to charities that help with health care and medical research. My view remains the same...I would like for all people to have access to affordable health care, but not at the forced expense of everyone else.Skjellyfetti wrote:That's where we disagree.ASUMountaineer wrote:health care is not an inalienable right.
I have heard the arguments that we have forced expense to benefit others (socialized education), and we choose to support because it's in the best interest of the country--and many would argue this is too. However, we've seen how great the government has done with education, I'm not convinced it's worth taxing people more for government controlled health care (I can't see it being funded any other way but through a tax hike). Especially during a recession. Also, how will this effect an already over $1 trillion deficit?
We'll see what happens. And, I think taxes will have to be raised on those making less than $250,000/ year to pay for this.

Then get out there and do something about it and quit relying on the government to do your "mission work" for you. Jesus would want us to provide that health care on our own good will, not because we're being compelled by a government.catamount man wrote:Who would Jesus deny free healthcare to?

Pretty much this. I've seen plasma TVs and iPhones mentioned here...as I sit and look at my Motorola brick while I watch my purchased-for-my-birthday analog TV. It IS hooked to cable, but I don't pay much for it, and antenna reception is crap when you live literally right next to a cell tower. (I get great cell reception, though.)Wedgebuster wrote:Not everyone. You'll find out in time.ASUMountaineer wrote:

Suppose I could work more, but right now between work, researching my research paper (an analysis of media coverage of the Postville raid), and finding time to take my mom to the doctor (who is a state employee and gets amazing health benefits), see my family now and then, (my grandpa died two weeks ago so I had several solid days of family and two trips to Cedar Rapids and back) and making some time now and then for sweet, sweet lovin' with the Man, my time is pretty booked. I'm going to head out and do some reporting at some point, so that'll help the work/school thing, but our news director is on vacay AGAIN so I can't pitch some of my ideas to him. Oh well for now.
I just dropped $400 on new brakes--front and back were shot, and he fixed my e-brake. I guess I could have spent it on insurance, but I think stopping my car is more important. After this incident, I'm probably going to bump up to full coverage on the car, and I suppose I'll look into State Farm's health insurance, though that's going to drive up my premium sky high. Deductibles are a killer, though. UNI's policy went to $90 a month. Probably not much to you lot, but I like to eat and put gas in my car now and then. Just sayin'.
Not like it matters that I say this--you conks couldn't give a shit, you think I'm lazy, use my disability for an excuse, don't work hard, etc. all of which aren't true. But that's why you're losing favor in this country. I can't remember who made the Jesus comment, but they were dead fucking on. Maybe if we stopped being so "every man for himself" we'd all be a lot better off.
I won't disagree that health care costs are ridiculous, but that's exactly why so many people DON'T have health insurance.

I say we go back to the 1800's. If you didn't have money to pay the doctor or some skill or item to trade him for your services you died. The hardworking bankers, lawyers & farmers were not expected to pay for the drunks, retarded children or old man who got a splinter & doesn't want to work anymore. Survival of the fittest.

That's not what stuck out the most to me. The fact that she is entertaining the idea of putting full coverage on a $2500 beater and not covering herself is the one that I can't wrap my mind around. Exactly....
Won't work...gotta have time with "da man"...
Pays for cable
Wants to put more than liability on an old car
Then wants free medical because she can't "afford" it....
Nothing has changed here, I see...

Re: No doubt, America needs universal health care
EPILOGUE
There is no health care crisis in America for those who are employed by our local, state, and federal government. There is no health care crisis for the wealthy either, because they can afford it. There is no health care crisis for most of our young adults in this country because, well, they are healthy and don't understand the importance of affordable health care, and even if they did purchase their own coverage it would be relatively cheap, for now.
So what's all the bitching about? Government workers get government coverage and try to tell others how they don't want government health insurance.
AZ and Hogan are self proclaimed fat cats living in the upper 3% income category, and they are receiving a bevy of benefits "as part of their compensation."
And they don't GAF about anybody else but their own stingy, greedy selves, and the hell with the rest of the country, they have their utopia.
Young impressionable Rushamaniacs are spouting off about how much they know about what our country needs, and getting in line to be future AZs and Hogans. Hope they make it, or there will be some extreme lessons from the school of hard knocks, especially if this medical debacle is allowed to run unchecked as they wish, once they get a family going and get into their middle years.
When the richest two or three percent of this country end up with 99% of the countries wealth, and only the top 10 or so percent can even get health coverage, what will they do to humor their greed then, there is no more to ferret away from the serfs?? Maybe they need to think seriously about promoting gun control?
I would think so..

Re: No doubt, America needs universal health care

Yea, life is so good....having worked my arse off to get to where I am without hand-outs...
I feel sorry for you that your anger is so totally blinding....you should see a doctor about that...
Democrats keep tossing this number around...46 Million uninsured Americans...
I'll wager you a great majority are uninsured due to decisions they have made...not because they can't afford health coverage...
Get them out of the arguement, and I'll soften my view greatly...until then...

Yeah, unfortunately being born black is a little different than being 28 without health insurance when it comes to equality. You'll find out in time.
Equality doesn't pertain to health care because access to health care is not an inalienable right.
And, exactly what is it I don't know? You have yet to show (as you stated) that health care is an inalienable right. You have yet to show why I should pay for someone's health insurance. You have yet to meet me, yet presume to speak about what I do and do not know. Please, enlighten me.
I am most certainly not in the top 3% in income, and my parents combined make under $60k/ year--so I didn't come from wealth. So you're little diatribe above falls short of the all encompassing generalization you wish to make on all people against universal health care. Again, please enlighten us youngins who just haven't lived long enough to gain your infinite wisdom. Because being a dick doesn't always help make a point.

Listen douchebag (wow, for someone all about equality you sure jumped to ageism quickly old timer), I'm a licensed insurance agent like you, so we both have dealt with people on both ends of the sprectrum. So, let me ask you, all knowing genius, explain the equality issue. I'm interested to see how it's a question of equality. Because, if we all should have equal health care, what else is a matter of equality...life insurance? Anything else you want to throw in as an issue of equality?

Re: No doubt, America needs universal health care
If I AM in the upper 3%, it's because I worked my ass off to get there, not because I sat around in my 20's expecting someone to hand me everything on a silver platter. Life's full of choices. If you chose wisely, you end up like me. If you DON'T, you end up like D1B. Or Wedgie.Wedgebuster wrote:EPILOGUE
