I'm not surprised. And that's fine, but I don't believe we were endowed by our Creator to receive health care. I suppose you could say "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." However, I would argue they did have a life, and we will all lose ours...no one get's out alive. It's unfortunate, and I'm not being harsh. My wife and I donate to charities that help with health care and medical research. My view remains the same...I would like for all people to have access to affordable health care, but not at the forced expense of everyone else.

I have heard the arguments that we have forced expense to benefit others (socialized education), and we choose to support because it's in the best interest of the country--and many would argue this is too. However, we've seen how great the government has done with education, I'm not convinced it's worth taxing people more for government controlled health care (I can't see it being funded any other way but through a tax hike). Especially during a recession. Also, how will this effect an already over $1 trillion deficit?

We'll see what happens. And, I think taxes will have to be raised on those making less than $250,000/ year to pay for this.

Pretty much this. I've seen plasma TVs and iPhones mentioned here...as I sit and look at my Motorola brick while I watch my purchased-for-my-birthday analog TV. It IS hooked to cable, but I don't pay much for it, and antenna reception is crap when you live literally right next to a cell tower. (I get great cell reception, though.)

Suppose I could work more, but right now between work, researching my research paper (an analysis of media coverage of the Postville raid), and finding time to take my mom to the doctor (who is a state employee and gets amazing health benefits), see my family now and then, (my grandpa died two weeks ago so I had several solid days of family and two trips to Cedar Rapids and back) and making some time now and then for sweet, sweet lovin' with the Man, my time is pretty booked. I'm going to head out and do some reporting at some point, so that'll help the work/school thing, but our news director is on vacay AGAIN so I can't pitch some of my ideas to him. Oh well for now.

I just dropped $400 on new brakes--front and back were shot, and he fixed my e-brake. I guess I could have spent it on insurance, but I think stopping my car is more important. After this incident, I'm probably going to bump up to full coverage on the car, and I suppose I'll look into State Farm's health insurance, though that's going to drive up my premium sky high. Deductibles are a killer, though. UNI's policy went to $90 a month. Probably not much to you lot, but I like to eat and put gas in my car now and then. Just sayin'.

But that's why you're losing favor in this country. I can't remember who made the Jesus comment, but they were dead fucking on. I won't disagree that health care costs are ridiculous, but that's exactly why so many people DON'T have health insurance.

There is no health care crisis in America for those who are employed by our local, state, and federal government. There is no health care crisis for the wealthy either, because they can afford it. There is no health care crisis for most of our young adults in this country because, well, they are healthy and don't understand the importance of affordable health care, and even if they did purchase their own coverage it would be relatively cheap, for now.
