JSO was probably a "Do as I say, not as I do" parent. Which explains why he can't separate Trumps actions from his comments.

Understand that I do not think what Trump is doing with China is a good idea. I don't think his "actions" in that regard are good.

But I also think he compounds the "sin" by lying about the effects of his actions. He is lying to you when he says the Chinese are paying the tariffs. He is doing something stupid that is costing you and lying about it.
