7 wounded in mass shooting near Chicago playground

Seven people were wounded in a mass shooting Sunday as they gathered in Douglas Park on the West Side. A 21-year-old man was hit in the groin and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition, police said. A woman, 25, was struck in the arm, leg and taken to the same hospital where her condition was stabilized. Another woman, 22, was also hit and taken to Mount Sinai, police said. Her condition was stabilized.

A 20-year-old man and a woman, 19, were taken to Stroger Hospital, police said. The man was hit on the right side of the body and the woman was struck in the leg. Their conditions were stabilized.

Speaking of Chicago, Mount Sinai Hospital went into bypass (meaning they weren't accepting ambulances or new ER patients) yesterday as all twelve of their Level 1 trauma units were occupied with shooting victims.

This is obviously not a young, white male problem.

Unfortunately we'll live with weekends like this for the rest of our lives. Climate change will take us down before America ever fixes a gun/mental health/society issue.

Exactly what laws or bills do you want Congress to pass that would prevent this?

We used to import a lot of AKs and Uzis back in the day, but now Kalashnikov and IWI build rifles in the US. Problem solved.

Yeah I know we used to - but I’ll bet every “mass” shooting involving an “assault” rifle in the last 10 years has been with a homegrown weapon

The El Paso AK was a WASR 10. I don't have all the details, since I don't work for the FBI, but I'd wager it was a Romanian parts kit imported by Century and then assembled here with a US receiver to meet US law.

And yeah, stamped AK receivers are easy peasy to manufacture.

Yes it is. For one a soldier from Ft. Bliss, who realized as a black man, he'd probably get shot if he drew a weapon. Instead, he helped evacuate the store.

What was to prevent him from being shot as a black man when exiting? I can understand not wanting to confront, but to say you are a Target in one scenario and not in another doesn't make sense. This smells of fake news.
