YSU was 4-7 last year, so why do people care if I missed it? Turns out, I wouldn't have put it on anyway.BDKJMU wrote:https://www.guardiankickoffclassic.com/matchup/89Hen wrote: I did leave off Nova/Gate, but I didn't see YSU/Samford, looks like it's a week early.

People care because it's an elite Patriot team off a historically great season (at least defensively) and with a win against JMU playing an MVFC that has recently been to the title game and is typically just a few players/plays away from being ranked or winning playoff games.89Hen wrote:YSU was 4-7 last year, so why do people care if I missed it? That's fine, but YSU was still a 4-7 team and it was 10 years without a playoff appearance before the fluke in 2016 where they got to play three of the worst teams in the bracket on the way to the finals.kalm wrote:People care because it's an elite Patriot team off a historically great season (at least defensively) and with a win against JMU playing an MVFC that has recently been to the title game and is typically just a few players/plays away from being ranked or winning playoff games.89Hen wrote: YSU was 4-7 last year, so why do people care if I missed it? Yeah, but you included for your "Game of the Week" (2018 records):89Hen wrote:That's fine, but YSU was still a 4-7 team and it was 10 years without a playoff appearance before the fluke in 2016 where they got to play three of the worst teams in the bracket on the way to the finals.kalm wrote:

(just answering your question, don't bite my head off)
NW ST (5-6) @ UT Martin (2-9)
Missouri St (4-7) @ NAU (4-6)
SIU (2-9) @ SEMO (9-4)
EIU (3-8) @ UTC (6-5)
JSU (9-4) @ SELA (4-7)
WIU (5-6) @ N Bama (3-2 vs Div I)
CSU (5-6) @ Furman (6-4)
Montana (6-5) @ S Dakota (4-7)
Towson (7-5) @ The Citadel (5-6)
San Diego (9-3) @ Cal Poly (5-6)
How are those games, a couple where both teams had losing records last year, and none of which involve 2 teams with winning records from last year, any different than:
-Samford (6-5)/YSU (4-7). At least Samford/YSU is nationally televised.
-VU (5-6) @ Colgate (10-2).
What did you do, remove games involing Div II & I-A, and draw the rest out of a hat?

Re: I-AA Game of the Week - WEEK ONE
Well of course I picked Southern at McNeese State. Otherwise: It will probably for sure be the top atmosphere both pre game with the tailgating and during the game with an overflowing stadium of any of the games listed. It'll probably have the highest attendance of the games listed even though there is some limit on that because McNeese only has a 17,000 seat stadium. I'm guessing they are going to let people sit on the hills and the actual attendance will be 20,000 or more.
For me it's interesting because it'll be the first game where McNeese has gone outside of the existing coaching staff to get a new head coach in 29 years. I actually liked the fact that they had a system and a philosophy that allowed them to win consistently even though they have one of the lowest athletic budgets in I-AA and now FCS. Now they are going to have the first big culture change in a long, long time.
But if you want to look at FCS vs. FCS games in week one where you turn on the TV and the stadium is overflowing, there's a lot of crowd noise, and there's a festive atmosphere this is going to be the one.
And the tailgating is going to be epic.

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

Re: I-AA Game of the Week - WEEK ONE
In actuality, I blew it here. THAT game isn't until 21 SEP. In less than an hour, we kick off AT HOME against NAIA Southern Oregon. That alone is likely to shoot down a 7-4 team's shot at the playoffs. We absolutely MUST go 8-3 or better. I know I'm about the only optimistic Hornet fan on the board right now, but I'm pulling for 8-3....andy7171 wrote:Wouldn't that be in the I-AA vs I-A catagory/thread?
