All Things Illinois
So much news daily on how Illinois is racing California to the bottom, that it’s time to have a thread just for the news from The Land of Lincoln (who is probably rolling over in his grave at the impending downfall of his state)...

Re: All Things Illinois
Chicago homeowners are suffocating under pensions and property tax hikes
State-wide, the public pension system is up to $250 billion in the hole...the Chicago public pension system is $29 billion in the hole...and the new Chicago mayor wants to fix that problem...but she’s only looking at new taxes to fix it, so far...
https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/opin ... -tax-hikesThe nation is more than a decade past the Great Recession, and most places are seeing a strong economic recovery and improved living standards.
Not in Chicago, and not in Illinois.
August statistics from the National Association of Realtors noted the city and state’s real estate market has severely underperformed, a trend forecasted to continue in the third quarter of this year. While the Midwest and the nation as a whole saw a very minor dip in home sales and surging Midwest home prices, Chicago missed the wave. Home sales in the Windy City experienced a 13.3% plunge, and the typical home sale price is barely climbing at all.

The tragedy of Illinois is that if you could lop off Chicagoland, it's a decent state.Col Hogan wrote:So much news daily on how Illinois is racing California to the bottom, that it’s time to have a thread just for the news from The Land of Lincoln (who is probably rolling over in his grave at the impending downfall of his state)...
It's similar to Delaware and Wilmington.

Re: All Things Illinois
Meet the people working to kick Chicago out of Illinois
https://www.chicagotribune.com/lifestyl ... story.htmlOver the past two years, the movement to divide the state of Illinois into two states — Cook County in one, the other 101 counties in the other — has been gaining support. In February, as Gov. J.B. Pritzker was pursuing an agenda for Illinois that included new tax and abortion policies, Halbrook refiled a resolution in the state legislature, HR 101, in which he and six co-sponsors asked the U.S. Congress to recognize Chicago as the 51st state. “I hear it a lot from my constituents, that we need to be separate from Chicago,” Halbrook says. “I thought yep, this is what we need to do.”
The resolution, which could be dismissed as simple political maneuvering — plays big at home, but has scant chance of seeing daylight in the legislature — is also backed by several grassroots groups agitating for separation. One of them, Illinois Separation, founded by Collin Cliburn, of Athens, Ill., has 24,000 followers on Facebook, and growing. Cliburn is also holding events at venues from wineries and gun shops to community centers around the state through August and September to capitalize on the cause’s momentum.

Better lop off Dover, too. It’s becoming a littler Wilmington.93henfan wrote:The tragedy of Illinois is that if you could lop off Chicagoland, it's a decent state.Col Hogan wrote:So much news daily on how Illinois is racing California to the bottom, that it’s time to have a thread just for the news from The Land of Lincoln (who is probably rolling over in his grave at the impending downfall of his state)...

I would think you'd be more interested in talking about how much of your retirement fund will be used to build the Wall.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

Surely you understand the need to redirect your retirement pay? It is for the good of our nation that you do this, and I, for one, appreciate it. I don't think too many people realize that the 1.5 miles of new wall have cost $1,700,000,000.
At a billion per mile, you may want to take a few steps to economize.
