I agree to an extent, and I'm sure MLB brass do as well. But I don't care much about market sizes personally, and was hoping that Cleveland had one last run in them. I'm fond of rust belt teams and the AL Central in general. Doesn't break my heart that they likely won't make the playoffs though. I'm more focused on who the number 1 draft pick is next June.GannonFan wrote:That's part of the snooze-fest - besides there being no real races down the stretch, the only one involves the perfect trifecta of markets of Oakland/Tampa/Cleveland. Good teams, no doubt, but not markets that move the needle.AshevilleApp wrote:AL Wild Card is nearly set with Cleveland's loss last night. Tampa and Oakland both two games up on the Tribe with four to go.

HR Record Chase
Minnesota Twins 301 HR in 159 games
NY Yankees 299 HR in 159 games
Twins become first team to hit 300 Home Runs in a season and have 5 players with 30+ Home Runs. Besides Neslon Cruz, can you name the other 4 without looking it up?

Twins over 30 Home Runs in addition to Nelson Cruz who's 40th was his 400th.

Nats relief pitcher Daniel Hudson (picked up from Toronto in July) had a heckuva series against the Phillies this week. In 4 games, he pitched 4.0 innings, 0 hits, 0 runs, 1 walk, 4 strikeouts, and collected 3 saves.

The Athletics are almost always competitive and ranked 23rd in spending this season
They have been amazing to watch over the past 20 seasons
at one point in 2012 they were 28th in payroll and had the best record in baseball at the all star break

Actually, they have a better chance in the first round than in the second round because of a best-of-five series. It's a killer round for the higher seeds. Wild Card teams have won 11 of the last 20 ALDS and 11 of the last 20 NLDS.Winterborn wrote:Sadly I agree. Just don't see making them making it out of the first round.Ivytalk wrote: Good one

Twins aren't the Wild Card team but I'm too lazy to look up the #2 vs #3 matchups.

Twins get the Yankees right off the bat. This isn't the Terry Ryan era Twins. This is the Thad Levine/Derek Falvey stat-ball Twins. They took charge in 2016, so we'll see if the outcome changes.

Re: 2019 Official Baseball Season Thread
FUN FACTS:
Old Dominion has three baseball alumni playing in the playoffs (all pitchers) and all three have been credited with a win in the Divisional Series. (Daniel Hudson - WSH, Justin Verlander - HOU, Ryan Yarbrough - TB)
Those three pitchers combined for a 41-15 record, and 8 saves, during the regular season.
If you do not think these facts are fun, then fuck you.
