Chicago was given serious consideration but projected troop casualties were too high. It would be like Afghanistan with buildings instead of mountains.
Being wrong about a topic is called post partisanism - kalm

MAQA - putting the Q into qrazy qanon qult qonspiracy theories since 2015.

It will probably be difficult for MAQA yahoos to overcome the Qult programming but they should give being rational & reasonable a try.

People will criticize the US for doing nothing and then when we go in we'll be criticized for intervening. That's part of the cycle too.
Osama bin Laden is dead. Everything else Afghanistan is about profits.
What, exactly, are we profiting from in Afghanistan, Mr. Pitchfork?

I don't know who you're talking about when you say "we". I'm referring to the usual corporate war-mongers we've all grown up with and their bootlickers in Congress.

Which corporate warmongers?

We set dumpsters full of money on fire over there so I want to know who convinced Bush to go and The One to stay

Ones like Halliburton or whatever alias they're using these days - ones that supply the tools of the trade. Locally, General Dynamics has an ammo factory running three shifts seven days. You could probably name a bunch of them given your job. Thats where the dumpsters of money go.

General Dynamics is running 7 day shifts for Afghanistan to supply just over 5000 troops who aren’t firing their weapons very often?

I’m still waiting for you to name these influential people who convinced Barack Obama that we should remain in Afghanistan for his entire 8 years in office.

P.S.: I work for State, not DoD. And I don’t write DoD budgets so keep me out of your hayseed fever dreams

I don't know who they're making it for, I haven't worked there since '89. We were running 3 shifts 24/7 then too and didn't have anybody in Afghanistan then. :coffee:

The hardest pill for me to swallow and the reason I will never really forgive Obama is... Afghanistan
As a Liberal I had convinced myself that "somebody like Obama" wouldn't do that

:ohno:

I had convinced myself of a whole series things related to war and to Afghanistan
and none of them ended up being true

My political cynicism has deepened since then

Here’s a thought exercise for you - one that I have tried myself

What would Trump go to war for? What would cause him to commit troops to battle where none were already deployed?

For me it is one of Trump’s few strong points

I think he’d go to war over an actual symmetrical attack on the US. But I don’t think he could be relied on to do it over much less than that.

I doubt Trump would have liberated Kuwait and I’m certain he would not have invaded Iraq.

(Maybe if somebody bombs one of his hotels)

I completely agree with you
There likely wouldn't have been an "Iraq war" with Trump

and he never would have been foolishly lured into Afghanistan like Obama

Well Obama wasn’t lured into Afghanistan ... we were already there. But he did call it the “good war” ... and he ran on getting out of Iraq which he made a good faith but very sloppy effort to do.

He doubled down on Afghanistan it is true - but I was never under the impression that getting out was high on his list of priorities because he really didn’t campaign on it.

These “wars” have a certain political inertia to them. They are a lot like entitlements... stopping them before the layman’s idea of victory can be more politically damaging than starting them

Venezuela was buying lots of 20mm I recall and there a few visits by reps of other countries. Killing doesn't stop just because there aren't any wars. All of which have always been and still are fought for money as somebody said a long time ago. I'm curious as to how you've come to the conclusion that nobody is making any money on our wars?

Not the American one anyway. :coffee:

But you don't know what he would have done - I don't think he would have any qualms about going to war as long as he could make money on it personally. Its not like anybody in his family would be in harm's way.
