Trump is just one POTUS, in a long line of Presidents, that’s have certainly abused their power in some fashion.

Could it be politically advantageous for the senate GOP to kick Trump to the curb if he's impeached?

If you remove Trump and the donks nominate Burnie or Lizzie, then all the people pissed off about Trump being ousted will come out to vote against the Donk. They won't show up if he's running against Biden, but that may not matter because Trump isn't beating Biden anyways.

And what if Mike Pence says "I'll serve the rest of the term, but I didn't sign up for this schit to run a campaign for president". Can Republicans hold a crash nomination process for a new candidate?

If Biden is the nominee Trump will crush him in debates. Biden can’t win a debate against himself. Trump would win 40 states.

Kurt Volker does not appear to have produced the kind of testimony that Schiff was expecting/hoping for

And the DoS IG thing turned out to be much ado about nothing

And CNN actually ran a criticism of Dems attacking the AG

I had just about gone over to thinking there might be a “there” there on Ukraine but now I’m back to “dunno”

The only thing Volker had was the text where he opined on what he thinks was happening, but in the same text thread the opinion gets shot down. Nothing new in that - it still looks shady, but there's still no smoking gun. When they get the e-mail that reads "we will not give you aid and we'll encourage the Russians to invade if you don't give us dirt on Joe Biden" then that will be a different matter. And heck, even then there'll still be people who will say "fine, impeach him or not, and we'll let the American people vote on it in 2020".

Is it worth investigating what was said in this phone call? Or no? Just assume the best and close up shop?

9/1/19
Bill Taylor: Are we now saying that security assistance and WH meeting are conditioned on investigation?
Gordon Sondland: Call me.

9/9/19:
Bill Taylor: As I said on the phone, I think it's crazy to withhold security assistance for help with a political campaign.

Not even worth checking with Bill and Gordon? :?

I kind of don't get why Pelosi doesn't just go ahead and call for a vote on an "impeachment inquiry" in order to take that dodge away from the Republicans. She's got a majority of the House on record as saying they support it.

I'm guessing she must be wanting to keep certain members from actually having to cast a vote. But it sure looks to me like if she called for a vote on doing an inquiry a majority would vote for doing an inquiry.

I'm at a disadvantage because I've been on the road the past few days but the impression I've gotten from listening to the radio and watching news in hotel rooms is completely different from yours. In particular I've gotten the impression that the Volker testimony proved a lot of fertile ground for them. Haven't heard anything about the IG thing but in googling it I got hits suggesting that was fertile ground as well.

So could you provide some detail as to why you've developed the impression you've developed?

They have to prove whether Trump was targeting a political opponent or sincerely cared about the corruption going on in the Ukraine. :|

Take a vote if they think there is, otherwise it is just blowing hot air. The NYT is not a great source, and their polling was probably made up. Take the vote or shut up.

Well knock me over with a feather... JSO’s got a different impression of things.

Tell you what, I’m not going to butt my head against your brick wall. Why don’t we just give it a few weeks and watch how it unfolds. Volker’s closed door testimony did not produce the material that Schiff was looking for and he took over the questioning from the committee’s counsel.

I’ll refer back to your question when it becomes obvious that I was correct, and I’ll refer back also if events prove me wrong.

Exactly. Trump is a one-off whose domination of the GOP will end as soon as he leaves office. He has not cultivated a new generation of office holders that will last. Conservatives and “leaners” will then return to it, if they ever really left.
and we'll never hear the end of how they bravely resisted from within

See, you're all eat up with the AOCD and it is causing you to forget how important timing is in this whole thing.

Dems are just blowing hot air. There is nothing, so there will probably never be a vote.
