A Hongkonger Pro esports player suspended a year by an American gaming company for making a statement in support of the Hong Kong protests.

BTW, I'm curious if all this stuff will spark a conversation about Google building software to help the Chinese censor the internet, or if Google has enough woke points from firing James Damore that they can get a pass.
This is a huge deal right now in the gaming community and Blizzard is getting hammered for it.

Of course now everyone brings up the HK issue on their own streams and during tournaments, and Blizzard is banning them too. At this rate, China is going to be Blizzard's only customer base.

BlizzCon is coming up on November 1 in Anaheim too...gonna be a complete sh*t show. They couldn't have more poorly timed these bans and their buckling-down. And they're doing this as they were just gaining momentum as people returned en-masse to WoW (which had died off for the longest time).
Hey Treep do you have this card yet?

BTW I stopped playing WoW about 10 years ago when I started living overseas... which is unfortunate since I’d love to cancel my account today

Lots of talk on the afternoon ESPN panel shows today that the NBA just needs to cancel the games in China.

Agreed, and not sure why they haven't done it yet. Principle > shekels.

China has already torn down all billboards promoting the exhibitions and is (unspoken) going to ensure empty arenas to try to embarrass the NBA (outside China, because they'll also pull the plug on the broadcasts there).

I've never played WoW. The only thing I've played of Blizzards are the old Diablo games.

I'm not much of an online gamer in general.

LAWL there's so much for everybody in here:

https://hotair.com/archives/allahpundit ... tions-now/

BTW they're right about the NBA... the next time anybody in that garbage league criticizes something about America they can just be reminded that they wouldn't say anything if their bottom line was at stake.

All that said, this is how China is ultimately going to beat us. They will insinuate themselves in every single market and industry in the country, including the media, and then nobody with a voice will say anything in criticism of anything China does.

Taiwan? Don't say Taiwan

Don't say Tibet

Don't say Uighurs in "actual" concentration camps

Don't speak up for Vietnam, Philippines, Brunei or any of the others over the South China Sea

Don't speak up about drying up the breadbasket of Asia by damming the Mekong River upstream from Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam

Cancerous monetary policy and currency manipulation? Shut up

All your intellectual property are belong to us!

Or we'll whack your bottom line. China figured out how to make good on Nikita Khruschev's threat

Saw a good idea on twitter yesterday. Need people to start showing up to ESPN gameday with signs that say Free Hong Kong or other things to piss of the Chinese.

Exactly

I told a colleague the other day we need to stop refusing Chinese tourist visas. Let those uncouth cunts come overrun Disney and DC and every other touristy shitbox we have

Americans will wake up to the mainland Chinese REAL quick

I'm beginning to agree with CID (and probably Trumpians). I'm wholly for global-trade, and I'm ok with free-trade with undemocratic nations, but China is beginning to see how much they can get away with.

I'd be fine if they surpassed us as an economy, but these initial jabs to influence free-thought through economic hegemony are genuine first-pass attempts against Western values. We need to nip it in the bud now, whether that's through protesting products or actual policies.

Of course the problem is American companies are fine selling our values to the highest bidder.

Disney is heavily invested in China...Disney owns ESPN...

I think the idea of showing up at any of the many ESPN public events with Free Hong Kong signs is outstanding...because Disney execs are either going to go crazy, or show their true red colors and shut down the ESPN events...

Same with the NBA...although they might just start previewing signs before entry into the arenas to try and prevent angering their Chinese masters...

Former Timberwolves guard, affectionately called Mebury by the fans, has become a Chinese Citizen.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/ ... rbury Link

The most loved American celebrity in China isn't Leonardo DiCaprio or Vin Diesel — it's former NBA point guard Stephon Marbury. After 15 years in the NBA, the player whom fans called Starbury moved to basketball-crazy China in 2009 to play for the Shanxi Zhongyu Brave Dragons and later the Beijing Ducks. (Earlier that year, he had turned down a $1.3 million contract with the Boston Celtics; in China, Marbury has reportedly been paid roughly $2 million per year.) The surprise move has paid off in other ways, too.

After he led the Ducks to their first Chinese Basketball Association championship in 2012, the team installed a statue of him outside the stadium. Two more titles followed (in 2014 and 2015), and Beijing gave him the key to the city, opened a museum dedicated to his career (with another statue) and issued a postal stamp in his honor. In 2015, he became the first Western celebrity to be granted a green card, making him a permanent Chinese resident.

Do we really have any tools in our tool box to deal with China? I mean, we can't just levy sanctions on them like we do Arab countries or even Russia without hurting ourselves because we're so interdependent. I assume if we could anything about China stealing trade secrets and flouting copyright laws we would've done it by now.

Like I said, I'm absolutely loving it watching the NBA get comeuppance over their virtue signaling on HB2, but I don't think putting the spotlight on companies that just provide entertainment is useful, especially when you consider the things Google does.
