Why is he important to the Ukraine Trump Fiasco 2.8?

The Ambassador to Ukraine...? :suspicious:

He was on the phone calls, conversations, and text messages described. Try harder.

I was talking about Taylor. He had nothing as usual. When Ted Lieu comes out and says things are bad, but doesn't give any specifics, you realize there's nothing there.

I wouldn't call it 4th hand information - in a lot of things it was second hand information, and he was getting it from a guy that I assume they'll subpoena eventually. But it is true that despite being the Ambassador to the Ukraine, he was being worked around, as he even admitted, by the President and others. It's been a common thread through the leaks so far that many in the official channels were upset that unofficial channels were being used to effect foreign policy.

I was about to get to your incomplete reading of the parsed Wapo article on the “DoS investigation” and then I saw this latest example of why you are so prone to getting things wrong... you just repeat what you are told

Taylor is not/not the US Ambassador to Ukraine. He is the Chargé d’Affaires. That’s a fancy French word for “guy holding down the fort while there is no ambassador”

That said, if his testimony holds up then it may be trouble for Trump in a Senate trial

While I agree with your overall point, I thought once you become an ambassador, you hold the title for life?

I only bring this up 'cause one of my current clients is a former ambassador and they always make a point to remind anyone which addresses them differently that it's a lifelong title. It's very annoying.

You hold the honorific title- Taylor is Ambassador Taylor today in the same way President Obama is President today.

Reek’s statement was clearly emphasized that Taylor *is* the USAMB to Ukraine.

Ukraine currently does not have an Ambassador. The last one was Louise Yovanovitch who was recalled in May. The DCM in Kiev took over as Chargé for a short period until Taylor was sent.

Which is odd in a way... Taylor is not the kind of guy you want to send to Kiev if you want to do shady crap. It is as if the vetting consisted of just checking if he had a R in front of his name. Which makes me wonder... maybe there is nobody left near the Prez who can say to him, “Mr. President, what you are trying to do in Ukraine will push the House to impeach you”

I think everyone who could have done that either quit or has been fired.

You calling someone a pedantic douchebag is the piece de la resistance of lack if self awareness

He is NOT the Ambassador to Ukraine and you have no standing to call out anybody for being persnickety. Just take the dose of your own elixir

The reason we do not say “acting Ambassador” is because nobody who is not accredited to a host country as an ambassador can act as an ambassador. It is one of the oldest rules of diplomatic affairs

If you send a demarche to your host government with “acting Amb” instead of “CDA” they’ll return the damn thing
