first seats installed at Target Field

Post by TwinTownBisonFan »

geeking out in a big way... so much work went in to getting it to this point...

signage going up, seats being installed... overhead shot reveals TF looks like a ballpark now, not a construction site.

It's gonna be a nice facility, but one cold sumbitch in April. :coffee:

Which Jake? Cuz that's our football stadium at Cord, and it is colder than shit in there come late Oct.

It's going to be nice, but many fans are still thinking there should have been a retractible roof.
If the Twins ever make the World Series, there could be a lot of complaints from the media.

Chicago Avg Temp 11/1 is 37 low, record 21, 54 high, record 79
Minneapolis Avg Temp 11/1 is 33 low, record 10, 50 high, record 77

hey... we (the lobbyists working on the project) had a proposal for a roof... the state refused to pony up the $100 million to add it in... so instead we get a real ballpark.

It's funny how many people in MN spent 10 years screaming against a new ballpark, but now that it's being built all sit and do the "it needed a roof" dance... personally, i couldn't be happier that it's a proper ballpark... i've seen games at Miller Park... it's the metrodome with a hole in the roof... no thanks...

Pohlad was the richest owner in baseball, he could easily afford an extra $100 million.

That is EXACTLY what I tell all the Twins fans in Fargo/Moorhead that bitch at me about the Yankees spending "too much money". I just laugh and say your former owner wiped his ass with the money George spends to get his players. The Twins could EASILY be just like the Yankees.

instead we get an "instant classic" ballpark... i can live with it... from a business perspective, the Twins always figured that the roof would help sell the park with outstate legislators, but privately never really loved the idea from a baseball perspective. When we came up with the Hennepin County plan (with Mike Opat's brainchild) the roof came off (HC didn't want it, or to pay for it) and we figured that the legislature would put it back and be happy with getting the park for only 100 million... they wouldn't even get behind that... so, we got the funding for the park, the twins paid 1/3 plus overruns (better than most parks in MLB)

but again, the twins could live without it... it's outstate types who wanted it... they should have ponied up for it... but hey, we get a better park without it.

spend 2 billion dollars in 10 years and not win a world series?

the twins revenues are nowhere near the yankees... even with TF being built

behind target center, just over 394 between 5th and 7th... across downtown from the Metrodome.

Am I the only one that hates all the corporate names on the new stadiums? (nice by the way)

What happened to the old style names? I mean, I know these corporations pay for the naming with big bucks and all but I just wish they would have the sense of history and have the park named by the people instead of the need for the greedy advertising

what sounds better The Spectrum or Wachovia Center? Would Rocky have been the same if he fought at the latter? I think not. The VET or Lincoln Financial Field? It's all so depressing.

(I understand the reasonings etc, doesn't mean I like it)

seems like a huge amount of foul territory off the infield. Maybe its just hard to tell the angle without any grass. But the more the foul territory, the further the seats behind the dugout will be from the infield.

Other than that it looks great.

I don't think it is as big as it looks. I tried to do the line as close to the left field line as I could tell. The right side I completely guessed on. Doesn't look too bad

when completed, it will have the second smallest foul territory in MLB (only Wrigley will have less)

I didn't think I'd be exact. I saw a red pole stick up, which I figured was home, so I took the thicket line setting MS Paint has and did it from pole to stake. That could be why my line looks off.
