Toyota's sales have fallen 38 percent in the first six months of the year -- to 770,000 cars and trucks from nearly 1.25 million vehicles in the first six months of 2008. U.S. industry auto sales fell 35 percent in the first half of the year.

But Alfie, without the UAW, how would HS graduate legacy auto workers get middle-class income of +$50/hr with guaranteed OT?....ALPHAGRIZ1 wrote:UAW ruing another company.

When I was in Boston I had a pet truck (besides my F-150)
I had a gold colored 1971 GMC pick-up that was in really good condition - I loved that old truck

I will never buy another GM, Chevy, Chrysler or Ford.
I want all my money supporting any other auto company that isnt owned or taking cash from the citizens of the US.
The sooner we get them out of business the quicker we save money.

Man, Alfie, you're one short-sighted motherfucker. Say the same thing when money went to help Chrylser way back when? My old man bought a Reliant K car right in the middle of that bailout with the expressed purpose of helping Chrysler get back on their feet to help pay back the govt early. Which they did, if you're old enough to recall.
Government helps, they get out.

have heard positive comparisons in terms of quality for the last few years Fusion vs. Toyota Camry. that's high praise...clenz wrote:I'm thinking my next car will be a Ford Fusion, Ford Escape, or F-150
I drove an Escape for a summer - handles well, doesn't feel tippy, gets good mileage for an suv.
i've heard a lot about Ford vis-a-vis quality improving significantly... that's an obvious good thing.

Sara's aunt works for the Ford plant in Louisville so the family gets good Ford family discounts. Her mother has an Escape and her father has a Fusion, her aunt has a new Focus, and her uncle has a new F150.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:have heard positive comparisons in terms of quality for the last few years Fusion vs. Toyota Camry. that's high praise...clenz wrote:I'm thinking my next car will be a Ford Fusion, Ford Escape, or F-150

I've driven all of them, the Fusion and Escape extensively, and I love them. They are amazing. We are actually taking the Fusion to CO, it gets about 32 MPG

Bob, the title is a little misleading. Toyota probably wasn't profitable in its most recent accounting year. Should have been expected based on the economy.bobbythekidd wrote:Ironic considering the thread title.ALPHAGRIZ1 wrote:I have never owned a Dodge/Chrysler product because of that.

Toyota North American unit sales were down more than 25% in FY09 from FY08. They still sold over 2 million vehicles in North America though.

Yeah, she's a gas guzzlin' tank, for certain.
Rarely drive it, however. Drive D1B's Subaru.

I've got 61k miles on my 2007 Fusion - all at 30mpg. Save for the rattle or two, it's a great car. Haven't even had to replace the stock Michelins yet, though that's coming with the next oil change. My grandfather owns the oldest continuously operating Ford dealership in NC, one of the oldest in the country, so my family drives Fords. My wife has a Honda Accord and that's a great car - but it also cost about $5k more than my Fusion, both similarly equipped.
