Just got done reading a book on William Leahy, FDR's Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs during WWII, and then Truman's for his first term. Good read. He was a bit of an isolationist, was very much opposed to Truman getting us involved in anyway in the Middle East (whether it was the oil or Israel). Good photo in the book of FDR hosting a member of the house of Saud on a destroyer on his way back from Tehran or Yalta. Let's blame Truman for all of this.

I have a neighbor who was the White House photographer during the Truman Administration. Has some good stories.

I would like to see us try and get out of the ME altogether.

I should have said Big Oil. I imagine since a lot of their perceived worth comes from reserves in the ground they wouldn't be very happy to see those reserves become worth less money due to alternatives.

Are you saying Exxon Mobil carries Saudi reserves on their balance sheets?

And if so, how would it be disadvantageous to Exxon Mobil for us to replace Saudi imports with indigenous sources that Exxon Mobil also processes?
