They probably all have retirement/vacation homes in DE.

The corruption in the First State is rising quickly. A state Senator recently whisked a last-minute bill through the General ASS-embly that benefited his brother, a prominent lawyer-developer in Dover. The brother belatedly “resigned” from the board of the favored entity in question, but the damage was done. That’s the new meaning of the term “Delaware way.” :ohno:

Arny and Navy investigations (NCIS and FBI, 2 dozen+ interviews) have determined the Cadets & Midshipmen were playing the Circle game & all have been cleared of the more serious charges.

That's the most convenient way to make a big problem go away. :thumb:

Of course, Trump would have reinstated all of them if they were expelled.

That was definitely not the circle game. Six guys don't all flash the circle at the same time. The whole point is to do it secretly and catch somebody looking. In the scenario in the video I posted, the circle game makes zero sense. The more plausible explanation, which is actually in the story you posted, is that it was sophomoric behavior. In having actual experience living and working with Middies, I can tell you that they are quite sophomoric. My original point that what they did was really stupid stands.

Well, aren't most third year middies technically "sophomoric" anyway?

I think it's the right decision to let this go rather than carry it forward. You know Trump would demand to reinstate them if they were expelled and frankly, expelling them in the first place would be a Trumpian-type act anyway. Both are just extremes. Say they were playing a game and then privately make sure they know it was clear they weren't playing a game and make sure they don't get as many perks as they would normally. No need to do all of this publicly.

Nobody died. It would have been big news with a few sheets and body bags.

Bottom line there is that bridges freeze first and southern states are jooish with the road salting/brining operations. Saw that first-hand when I went to Chatty to see the Hens paste Colgate in 2003. The day after, the roads in Knoxville were a skating rink. No salt to be found.

That happened only a couple of miles from where I lived.
The bridge is very unassuming. It's only about 10 feet above the swamp/creek that it crosses and about 700 feet long. There is no rise or dip before or after you cross so if you are driving in the fog, you have no idea it's a bridge. And if it was the fog that caused the moisture that froze (rather than rain/snow), it's a tough one for road crews to forecast.

Location is only a couple of miles from Pierce's BBQ. :thumb: 8-)

Heading to Montana, my only worry is Snoqualmie Pass 60 miles east of Seattle. You make it past there and Idaho and Montana know how to plow and sand.

Sand doesn't do shit. I remember when Slower Delaware used primarily sand when I was a kid. Thankfully they evolved to dropping rock salt and then finally using brine before and salt during nowadays, which works wonders.

We had an evacuation for a September coastal storm and the running joke was that any tourist who went back to their house in MD/VA/DC/PA/NJ/NY had to take off their Salt Life sticker if they couldn't stick it out.

Yes. Yes you did. Go to any small town in these here parts and probably the Midwest and you’ll see a number of rear wheel drive vehicles with old bald tires that somehow manage in winter. Probably because they’re not tailgating EC(b) azzholes or west of the cascades shrinking violets and know how to handle winter driving.

Road chems and salts are for pussified regions of the country.

When I was growing up in Caswell County NC we’d usually get a couple good snowstorms a year and they would plow the paved roads but not salt them. What snow was left on the road would pack down and we’d just drive on it.

We also had state maintained dirt roads that wouldn’t get plowed - and those were the ones that determined if school was out or not.. if there was more than 6” of snow on the dirt roads the school buses were dicey so they’d cancel.

When I was a kid, dad and I would ride out early and check one dirt road near the house. If it had more than 6” then we wouldn’t bother watching the morning news to see if school was out. If we didn’t have those dirt roads lord only knows how much snow we’d have ti have before they’d cancel.

All that said, I never saw a car in the ditch because of snow unless we went to Greensboro or Danville where they are idiots

I was on the west side of Puget Sound and had to go over this tiny pass that got some snow. Total distance dealing with snow was probably around 5 miles.

There were 3 cars in the ditch, and as the snow was fresh, you could see their tracks. They simply drove straight into the ditch.

Strange. When I'm on YouTube looking at funny videos of cars sliding on icy roads, they almost all have license plates from flyover states.

BTW, for the win...

You never get to see those videos in DC, because when there is a dusting of snow, school is canceled.

I heard on the radio while driving to work in DC that Montgomery County actually did shut down schools on that dusting we had two Tuesdays ago. Hilarious.
