Just looked up Kobe Johnson's High School track record. He took 2nd in Georgia for the 100 meters, and 9th in the 200. This time off over the holiday, should get him back to 100 percent. Once he gets in the open, he's tough to catch.

Johnson does have good speed as does the team as a whole but I imagine it’s just average for the JMU team. Lots of facilities, high paid coaches, special shoes probably on contract, indoor/outdoor practice fields you name it. They bought it, speed included.

The BISON do seem to have a coaching advantage with Matt Entz at the helm. Young, aggressive, king of the 2 point conversion and uses the fake punt. He has a killer instinct as does the team. Entz graduated from Wayne State an old D2 foe of the Herd and probably familiar to Cignetti from his long tenure in D2. Entz takes the game personally.

Cignetti is the old hand. Worked his way up to the big cushy JMU 10 million football budget, he is more of an administrator than a hands on “can-do” guy. A good coach, not great, can get you there sometimes but never gets the prize. It’s his first year at JMU but he’s no spring chicken. He’s another bubba Sweigert with more money to spend.

Delaware fans and college football. :dunce:

It is a long time between games but does give each team a chance to be at the top of their game at full strength.

It also provides a little cushion for travel plans

Nice for both.

Long time between games so I learned there is a Cignette jr and Sr.

Sr is coaching the Dukes. Jr played for him and was on the coaching staff at Indiana (PA) when they couldn’t get past the Bison in 1990.

Before that Cignette Sr was an assistant for the West Virginia Mountaineers and head football coach from 1976-1979. Between 1979 and IUP in 1986 he apparently took his first break from coaching.

He coached at Indiana(PA) until 2005 losing in the D2 Title game twice. He apparently took a second break from coaching until taking over the Dukes this season but the bio I read stopped at 2005, the end of his tenure at IUP.

Looking further because the gaps concerned me, I find Curt Cignette, another son of Frank Sr.

He is the son coaching the Dukes. His career included IUP too as head coach from 2011 - 2016. He went to Elon, turned them around a bit and on to the Dukes

Confusing history but NDSU is facing a legacy coach whose ancestors couldn’t get past The Bison. Curt is the guy trying to straighten that out for them.

What a football family. Ofer against the Herd.

Surprised to see the Cignette family history is front page Fargo Forum today. Curt hopes family history doesn’t repeat itself

Interesting footnote for Delaware fans anxiously awaiting Saturday’s kick-off:
To a lot of players and fans it probably seems like a few years ago when North Dakota State descended on Frisco, Texas, for its first appearance in the NCAA Division I FCS national title game. The reality is that game against Sam Houston State was nine seasons ago, it was a tight game in which the Bison trailed in the second half and the play that may have kicked off the unprecedented run of championships came from an unexpected source.

A punter, of all players.

A fake punt from Matt Voigtlander was the springboard play in NDSU’s 17-6 win over Sam Houston State in the 2011 Football Championship Subdivision title game. The Bison will be gunning for their eighth crown in nine years on Jan. 11 when they face James Madison at Toyota Stadium.

Looking further into the subject of Bison treachery we find In 2003 The Bison used a fake FG to beat the Montana Grizzlies at Washington Grizz. This is among the greatest football games ever played by what was the best NDSU D2 football team in a long history of great Bison teams. They also ran a reverse for a score.

It was win #1 of the current NDSU Bison Dynasty.

Bison trailed 24-2 at the half but, they are second half team winning 25-24. Highlights below. About 5:09 is the fake FG

It was a game of firsts with brand new head coach Craig Bohl and brand new color guy Phil Hansen, one of the best. I’ve met him a couple times and we always had a fun conversation. Glad he is still involved with Bison football. Nobody knows it better than Phil.

From my position as a fan beating the Ofer Cignettis is like beating UNI. You respect them but can’t help but feel a little pity that they find themselves in that position. It’s just unfortunate circumstances.

Trolling? Try the UNI women’s track team.

Interesting point being made: A win for JMU is ranking up there with the biggest wins in JMU history. Not so much for NDSU. A Bison win would probably be in the top 10 for NDSU.

Must be tongue and cheek or it’s obvious JMU has NDSU envy about as bad as UND.

Ticket prices are stabilizing from flashing ridiculously high last week. A good sideline seat is now under $150. Last week around $1,000. Corners and end zone near face. SRO goes on sale today.

The box office was sold out months ago. The tickets have been sold enough times now to eliminate the high premium buyers. The scalpers are now trying to move excess inventory.

The only way there will be empty seats is if the scalpers have overbought. Any empty seats will represent overstock costs for all the scalpers. There should be tickets in the lot for fair prices.

NDSU isn't a young team compared to other teams if you look at the 2 deep.
The entire roster isn't relevant when its the 2 deep that plays almost all the snaps outside of garbage time.
Yeah I'm going to pull up the most recent game notes for 120+ teams, and scoring their 2 deep with Steele's formula would only take about 30+ hrs.
If this young Bison team doesn't win this year, they should have a good chance next year.

No its not. Sure you play more than the 2 deep in blowouts, esp regular season home when you dress just about everyone. I counted about 108 on NDSU’s roster listed under their NC game notes. JMU is in the same ballpark.
-Only 64 are allowed to dress for the playoffs. That’s only about 2 1/2 strings + special teams.
-Sure at a couple positions you might use more than the 2 deep outside of garbage time (RB, TE, WR, maybe another) But even those positions the top 2 at each position will get the bulk of the snaps outside of garbage time. And other positions the 2 deep will be 100% of the snaps outside garbage time.
