I can't imagine an Ivy League admissions officer pulling his application out and tell others, "Princeton can use a guy like Nick!"

I couldn’t imagine an Ivy school taking a middling intellect and self-promoter like David Hogg, either, but Harvard took him.

I don’t know about that. The Harvard Extension School does offer a master’s degree in “Creative Writing and Literature.” Maybe JJ just shorthanded it. Or maybe he’s bullshitting us.CAA Flagship wrote:Fake News.Ivytalk wrote:

Anyway, Joe could benefit from the program with his CS posts. One bullet point on the website says the program can help you “master key elements of narrative craft.” Another says it enables you to “practice the art of revision as a means to hone your voice as a writer.”

Yes, I was short-handing it. Actually, so are you.
The proper identification would be: "Master of Liberal Arts in Extension Studies, Creative Writing and Literature." I understand that many people will leave out reference to the "Extension Studies" on resumes, in order to conceal that their degree is really from the Extension School -- since, truth be told, the Extension School is no better than Cornell.

In my opinion, around the time I was looking at schools, there were no colleges better than Fordham, at least in terms of what I wanted and believed made a college "great." It seems so long ago, and quaint, but I wanted to get a Western liberal arts education from the educational order than essentially created the concept of the Western liberal arts. All of the great American universities modeled themselves on the Jesuit university. At a Catholic high school in the 1970s, the push to "go Jesuit" was strong.
As the Yale Daily News Guide to Colleges said around that time, "Fordham is the preeminent university for the Catholic middle class." That was me. Coming from a Catholic, middle-class background, I was oblivious, at 17 when I read that statement, that it was actually a subtle WASPY put-down. It turns out there was a Catholic "upper class" that went to Yale, I guess.
Still, my Jesuit professors were demanding, but fair, and I realized when I got to law school that I was far better read, and had better study habits, than most of my Ivy-educated classmates. I wouldn't trade my Jesuit education for any other.
