We killed a guy who killed hundreds of Americans. Does the imminence of the next attack really matter when that pattern has been established? It surely didn't to Obama.
You're missing the point - obviously nobody grieves this guy's demise.

The point is: From where did this intelligence come? We all know exactly what he thinks about our intelligence agencies.

I doubt the CIA is going to reveal sources, nor would I want them to, especially in a briefing to Congressional democrats and never-Trump republicans trying to score political points.

When was the last time another President did a drone strike on a high ranking general of another nation? I don't think that was a common sort of thing. Maybe it did but I don't remember anything like that happening before in my lifetime. I know we did something kind of similar with Yamamoto in World War II. But that was during a full declared war.
Oh I see -

So it is station and title that is the deal breaker for you, John?

You’re ok with us whacking all kinds of other people - even US citizens abroad

Hell, we’ve even whacked a Head of State or two

But somehow you put your foot down at a general officer who also happens to run the world’s largest state-run terror organization

It must be a REALLY interesting place inside your head

Oh come on you know it's different. BTW what Heads of State have we whacked? I do think those would be examples of something like I'm talking about. I know people wanted to get Castro. But which heads of State have we directly openly assassinated?

It's not about me putting my foot down. The point is that this is not "typical." This is not something that has been done all the time. And I don't think, for example, that anything like this happened under Obama or Bush or Clinton.

Saddam Hussein

Moammar Qaddafi

I mean, if it’s Trump’s fault that Iran shot down an airliner then surely we can take credit for those two? I’m just trying to figure out your particular brand of dementia

Huh? Who’s arguing that we caused the airliner to be shot down here? And please explain how we assassinated Hussein and Qaddafi?

Agreed in general, but Obama was questioned by some, including some on the left, regarding bombings, drone strikes, etc.

The Bin Laden kill was also a little bit different than this one.

Regardless of how we arrived here, questioning our government is a good thing, no?
Yes.

I saw a YT clip of a CNN "the airliner wouldn't have been shot down if Trump..." story. So yeah, there are some folks claiming it's Trump's fault for the airliner. That's how absurd this thing has gotten wrt making it all Trumps fault.

Pure delusion.

Hell, it was pretty quite when Obomba iced a US citizen without due process with a drone strike. Imagine the outrage if Trump did such a thing.

You can be forgiven for not reading John’s previous posts on this matter, klam

Its hard to waste time reading the same things over and over, so if you missed it, John made this assertion previously

and, using that same logic (which JSO should be familiar with since it is his) we can say that we killed Saddam and Moe because it is we that created the conditions for them to die

Who's arguing???

Really? :?

I could spend the next 24 hours of my life...nonstop...posting articles, social media posts, and videos of people from news agencies, to presidential candidates, to members of Congress stating that it is "our" fault that the Ukranian airliner was shot down. :coffee:

So it’s becoming more apparent there was no imminent threat at least on a large scale. Why lie about it?

Soleimani was hostile and did pose a threat to American lives but it’s still a pretty heavy decision to take out a high ranking foreign military leader.

Should there be a process involved including congressional approval? Or do we just leave it up to the experts like Bolton and Pompeo and trust their motives and judgement?

I'll feel better about Bolton's motives when he steps up and testifies without being coerced, just like nothing is preventing him from doing right now.

Sure, Congress should sign off acts of war.

Why is this a thing to now?

I didn’t hear you questioning the air strikes in Yemen, Libya, Syria, etc etc etc

Why the sudden pearl clutching?

I questioned all three, as did others on the left. But keep trying to but Obama this into something ideological. It’s easier. :thumb:
