Officer says he'll 'never apologize'...
...for Harvard professor arrest
(CNN) -- A Cambridge, Massachusetts, police officer said Thursday he will "never apologize" about how he handled the arrest of prominent black Harvard University professor Henry Louis Gates Jr.
"That apology will never come from me as Jim Crowley, it won't come from me as sergeant in the Cambridge Police Department," Sgt. James Crowley told Boston radio station WEEI. "Whatever anybody else chooses to do in the name of the city of Cambridge or the Cambridge Police Department which are beyond my control, I don't worry about that. I know what I did was right. I have nothing to apologize for."

Try and get T and Z to admit Bush was a complete fvck for a president. Same thing. They're always right and the normal rules of society don't apply to them.

Re: Officer says he'll 'never apologize'...
From what's been reported in this article and others, it sounds like the guy was acting according to normal police procedure. I know that when I've been stopped by a cop before, they usually will ask you to step out of the care before they come up to the window. It just makes sense, what with the rash of cops getting shot. Plus, my next door neighbor and the guy across the street are black, but I can guarantee you, if my wife knew they were out of town, and saw someone snooping around, and "breaking" into the house, she would immediately assume the worst and call the cops. She's more of an act now, think later type. So, I can totally see how the cops got called on this one. And, having accidentally set off the alarm at my office more than once, I've had to prove my identity to the officers when they arrived. And, they did insist that I come out of the office, and asked me if I was alone, if anyone else was in the building, etc. You gotta figure, in a situation like that, those guys' sphincters must be extra tight, just waiting for the bogey to step out, and shoot them. They don't pay cops enough for that shit.
Gates got his ass on his shoulders, was beligerant, and got his dumb ass handcuffed for being a douche. I'm glad to know that I'm personal friends with the Pres., I can fuck with the cops in my hometown, and I'll get off. Obama should have kept his fucking pie-hole shut on this one.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the officer's name is Jim Crowley.Appaholic wrote:...for Harvard professor arrest

Oh yeah, pull out some shit from 50 years ago or something, because that has so much relevance to this particular instance. GMAFB.wkuhillhound wrote:Does anyone else find it ironic that the officer's name is Jim Crowley.Appaholic wrote:...for Harvard professor arrest

Crowley is the same officer that worked to revive Reggie Lewis. He also teaches racial profiling at the academy with a black officer. There is a good chance he is a Donk, being from Mass.wkuhillhound wrote:Does anyone else find it ironic that the officer's name is Jim Crowley.Maybe I'm thinking about another Crow that deals with race.

Re: Officer says he'll 'never apologize'...
Agree to a point. There's no doubt Gates was trying to "big time" the officer. He would have done better to show the ID, inform the policeman there was no problem, then shut the door. I've been Gate's without the belligerence before dealing with a power-hungry obnoxious cop, so I know how mad he could have felt being in his own home. If you are in your own house, you don't have to talk with the cops, just shut the door....death dealer wrote:From what's been reported in this article and others, it sounds like the guy was acting according to normal police procedure. I probably would have left the guy alone if he had satisfactorily identified himself. If you can't get good ID and then leave and it turns out to actually be a break in, then you're fvcked.death dealer wrote:From what's been reported in this article and others, it sounds like the guy was acting according to normal police procedure. It is hard to say since I wasn't there, but it sounds like he jumped right into race card mode the minute the cops questioned him, and then stayed loud and belligerent right up until they put the bracelets on him. Considering what he does for a living, I can't help but wonder if he wasn't doing his best to get himself arrested by a white cop. This was certainly a low-damage, relatively painless way to do it. He is probably disappointed they didn't hit him with the Taser.

All of what you say is true but under these circumstances he was answering a reported burglarly call. He can't just walk away and say "oh, okay then I'll see you later." He did nothing wrong here. Can you imagine if he just walks away from this? He had every right to ask for ID that showed the man's proof of residence which the ID he provided did not do. The cop shouldn't apologize for answering a burglarly call and following the proper procedure just because the black guy took offense to him doing his job.Appaholic wrote:Agree to a point. Gates was dealing with a cop on a call, he refused to identify himself. What happens next can be about anything.
Reminds me of that black lady congress person who got confronted by a security cop at the Capitol after hours, she just assumed she was so damn important that everybody would know just exactly who and what she is.
Seems like most everybody forgot who she was at the next election.
