Still much research to be done, but the fact that some people show mild symptoms - or none at all - makes thing thing quite amazing. That and the fact that it's highly contagious. You or I could have it right now and never know, yet the next person dies.

Doesn't that largely happen with most contagions over enough time? If we didn't have widespread exposure wouldn't we eventually have something like the Native American disaster with an isolated population set being completely unprepared for and in danger of extinction from contagions they never had exposures to?

If we didn't have widespread exposure wouldn't we eventually have something like the Native American disaster with an isolated population set being completely unprepared for and in danger of extinction from contagions they never had exposures to?

I think they become less deadly over time, but not so wildly asymptomatic and symptomatic at the same time...to the point some people have no idea they have it while others are dying. But I don't know, there may be other viruses like that. The rhinovirus is the closest I can think of in terms of the variety of symptoms, but it's rarely deadly.
