Wyoming has been officially tabbed as the pre-season dog of the Mountain West Conference for 2009. At this point apparently, all kidding aside, if Weber goes to Laramie and lays an egg, they might as well disband and go on a mission.

Heat is on, first game shall define the season for either team, who will it be?

IMO, **IF** they do, it will be when Eastern finishes 1st in the Sky and/or eligible for playoffs. THEN & ONLY THEN, will they lift the ban. It makes no sense for them to show leniency ( which will kinda look bad for the NCAA anyway) before the reg. season starts and run the risk that Eastern never makes the playoffs.
:coffee:
There's no way in hell that the NCAA is going to base lifting the playoff ban on how EWU does this year, even if they went undefeated. The ban will stand. What the hell kind of precedence would the NCAA be setting if EWU won the conference and they lifted the ban?

'Ok, guys, you broke so many rules that we banned you from post game play, but since those infractions resulted in you having such a great team that you won the conference we are going to forgive you and not only that, but we're going to give you a home game in the first round............'

Give me a break..................

   I want to win REAL bad, but neither of Weber's FBS games define the season for the Wildcats.

Not saying it isn't a good argument about scoring against UM and Cal Poly but you were the recipient of UM's turnover prone 3 game series in the middle of the season and your offense only had to go about 35 yds. for each score. If you can do that against Wyoming then I think you will definitely win that game.

It doesnt matter whether Weber only had to go 35 yards or 60, UM's defense could not stop Weber that day, Montana did a much better job in the playoff game, your offense turning the ball over is no excuse to stop playing defense.

Last year the two FBS losses and two DivII/NAIA wins probably cost you guys a home playoff game.. I'd say they'd be pretty important.

No, I think the only difference would be this, Weber beat EWU, First round home game vs Cal Poly, then they still would have had to play at UM in the next round, I dont think playing those teams cost us anything.

I agree, what cost you was your inability to beat two BSC opponents at the end of the season.

Losing a 2nd Rd playoff game didn't cost us the ability to host a 1st rd playoff game.

When you have hopes for the playoffs...I'd rather be playing 1 FBS team per year not 2, but who knows maybe we really need the money even if its against FBS teams that don't pay much.

Maybe we'll have to keep doing this until we can start packing our home stadium.

I do agree 10-2 woulda been better than 9-3 last yr if we'd scheduled SUU instead of Utah or Hawaii.

But D2/NAIA games don't count towards your 7 wins for playoff eligibility (last I checked), so that's four games that set you back, plus a loss to Eastern.. that makes only 7 D1 wins.

You are absolutely correct, Mr. T! That's why I like this year's all-DI schedule much better. :thumb:

No DII/NAIA this year!

The FBS games are important, yes, but only the FCS games define the season.

If Weber does not beat Montana in Missoula, they are unlikely to get a seed. If they beat Montana and win the BSC outright, they are likely to get a seed - regardless of the outcomes of the FBS matchups.

Your analysis is incomplete, Ursus. In the mid-season matchup won by Weber the net turnover differential was only 2. Weber recovered one fumble and snagged two interceptions, and Montana snagged an interception. Only two of the seven Weber scoring drives originated with a turnover. Take them away and Weber still wins 31-28. Turnovers were not the biggest story of the game.

The more important factors in the Wildcat victory were superior defensive performances in critical situations and better special teams. The Wildcats sacked Bergquist 7 times and held the Griz to only seven conversions on eighteen third and fourth down attempts. The Griz never sacked Higgins and allowed six of twelve third and fourth down conversions. Moreover, the Griz surrendered an average nine yard advantage in field position from kickoffs.

The average Weber scoring drive was 41 yards, not 30 yards as you claim. Take away the turnovers and the average drive was 54 yards. Better special teams as much as turnovers, were the cause of the difference in the length of scoring drives.

If you mean to say that the beatdown score of 45-28 was caused by turnovers, you are correct. If you mean to say that the Weber victory was caused by turnovers, I must disagree.

Cheers!

I understand completely what your saying, Weber needs to win the turnover battle and get good field position, thats the storyline for every football game, what you were blaming Weber's win in Ogden on was UM's turnovers, like native said without them Montana STILL LOSES. 5, 25, 35, 73, 100 yards it doesnt matter how far they have to go, they will score if the DEFENSE cant stop them. instead of blaming your offense for turnovers, you should point fingers at the defense who allowed Weber to score at will.

Jeezus Christ. I never said anything about the turnovers being an excuse for MT losing the first game. I said that it was an anomaly that doesn't happen very often so although the rest of the reasons that Weber could win the game were strong I wouldn't count on that as something Weber would have in the bank in the Wyoming game. I went on to say that if it does happen then I expect Weber to win that game.

Native you don't have any problem understanding what I'm layin' out there normally so I'll assume that I didn't point this out clearly enough although when I re-read what I wrote I still can't see how that point doesn't get through.

Based on past performances and general proclivity for not being a fuckstick I have two final responses on this subject.

Native-Good luck to you guys and hope the game turns out well for the Wildcats.

weber wildcat-You guys lost the game that counted against the Griz so you know...whatever.
