I hate Government

Post by AZGrizFan »

Any government.

My daughter moved to LA last July (don't judge). She still hasn't registered her vehicle, converted her auto insurance or gotten a California driver's license.

So, this week she's getting the insurance and DL...but to register the vehicle in that fucked up state, either a) the vehicle has to be in her name or b) the owner (me) has to be present to register the vehicle. WTF?

So now, I have to refinance the vehicle at my place of employment to get HER onto the title so she can register the vehicle in CA. The kicker? They want to charge me an ADDITIONAL $1,400 in sales tax because I've owned the vehicle less than a year. So, fuck them. I'm gonna wait until April 23rd, and THEN have her register it. Oh, and they want to charge her (me) an additional $450 in penalties because the vehicle has been in the state for 8 months while registered in the state of Texas. So now, when they ask her what date the vehicle entered the state, I've instructed her to use the date of April 15, 2020.

Fuck you, KKKKalifornia, you commie bastards.

DMV is just another in a long line of government services that should be run by the Federal government, not individual state or counties. You ought to be issued a license plate for your car that's good in all 50 states. Just like your DL should be good in all 50 states.

License Plates
Drivers Licenses
Concealed Carry Permits
Drug legalization

Something that's legal in one state (or multiple states) shouldn't be illegal in others. There are just some things that would greatly simplify citizens lives if they were national laws.

How about this one Z. My wonderful state is exploring a tax on professional services like: country club dues, realtor commission, legal services, etc... so my club dues would go up 5% with all the money going to the state. Imagine hiring a lawyer and having to pay an extra 5% to Maryland.

IF this were to ever pass, I'm out.

I’m not sure that’s a solution - you want Congress to decide what hoops you must jump through to register a car

And since those things not specifically assigned to the Federal government are then reserved for the states, we’d need something in the Constitution making the administration of motor vehicles a Federal responsibility .... yeah no room for mischief there

Z, why would you have her register her car in California? Just have her claim San Antonio as her principle residence and her California residence as her second residence. How can they prove the car was there for longer?
I know several people that did that with FL and VA. Had a condo in FL and a home in VA. Spent about a month in FL each year but that was considered their primary. Cars were registered in FL.

The only problem is inspections, if required in the primary state. Gotta bring it back at least once every two years or so.

Montana has a good little side racket going on for a number of years in that area. Specifically one little county handles most of the supercar licensing for the western half of the country due to cheaper taxes and not having to worry about emission testing. There is (last I checked) a firm that you can hire, they do all the paperwork, provide a P.O. Box and address and handle licensing, taxes, and whatever else you may need done to maintain registration on the vehicle and you just write them a check once a year.

That said,

Concealed carry I think you can make an argument for a national licensee but the resat leave up to the states. This is just a lesson in life on what the evils of a nanny state are and a good lesson for your daughter in how the world works. Personally I would show her the true cost of such a move and the hoops you had to jump through so she could move out there as a bit of and educational lesson on how governments work. :)

So you move to a state to take advantages of the opportunities afforded in that state, but you don't want to follow the rules of said state.

Why SHOULDN'T someone that makes money, uses services in a state pay their fair share?

We get all these jack-a-lopes that spend 4-6 months of the year here in Arizona, clogging the roads that Vehicle Registration paid a good chunk of, yet they refuse to register the vehicle here.

And then they turn around and bitch about the roads, and about "lazy welfare people" when in fact THEY are the problem.

You mean retiree snowbirds, Jon?

We register our vehicles in Montana...
and they mostly reside in California and Washington

Nothing bad has happened yet...

My folks and sister both have houses in Montana plus my nephew is a GM at a Missoula car dealership
so it's no problem...

No one has a reason to hate government more than I but this is good post. It’s also another example of transferring wealth from the middle class to the rich.
