Professors at GMU were told to prep for campus closure, and a shift of teaching everything online.

Not imminent, but to be ready.

Everyone at our location had a practice work from home day Friday. Presto, 2 new cases in Minnesota.

Local news this morning is reporting that they "disobeyed self-quarantine orders". Not exactly sure what that means but it seems that quarantining was, at least, suggested. And they didn't do it. :ohno: :ohno:

Last week, Thailand declared the virus a “dangerous disease”.. which under their laws means they can forcibly quarantine you.

We have nothing like that in the US, except for maybe a declaration of martial law.

The US cannot contain a supervirus and my fear is that once this is all over, if things get nasty, we may see some kind of run on civil liberties again, like we saw after 9-11

From what I am reading the health dept hadn’t issued a ‘formal’ quarantine order, so the father can’t be charged criminally.

Hopefully he gets his ass sued though.

Full blown virtual home. Kids are logging onto school and I've been working online for 2 hours already.

Difficult will be when we try to replicate our youngest's curriculum. Not sure how that is going to work.

So Mrs89 is one of those who loves the whole panic thing. She got up early Saturday morning and went to the grocery store to stock up. Bought shit like canned vegetables that I'd never buy in a million years. $300 later we're fully stocked... well, once our Omaha Steaks order arrives. There's just no reasoning with folks panicking.

Even though our board chicken littles like to pretend this isn't just like the flu... it is.

Travel and entertainment industries getting hammered: airlines, cruise companies, hotels, car rental, restaurants, amusement parks, festivals, etc, etc, etc.

Have to assume others are booming: home food delivery, video streaming services, grocery and big box stores like Costco, Sams, BJs, manufacturers of cleaning supplies, other certain household staples, medicines, protective medical gear, prepper supplies, ammo, etc, etc, etc.

Positives:
Plummeting fuel prices, airfares, hotel and car rental rates. Your summer vacation just got cheaper if you don’t cancel it, and haven’t already prepaid it..

Lower interest rates

Not having to deal with crowds at formerly crowded places..

We went out on Friday night to our local "downtown" (Bethesda) around 8pm. The roads were empty and we got a metered spot right in front of the bar. Both are unprecedented.

I have had my flu and Prevnar (pneumonia) shots. I also have a stash of bourbon. I don’t give a flip about hoarding hand sanitizer or surgical masks, but if there’s a run on bourbon, I will be pissed off. 8-)

Unless there's some miracle, I don't see that happening. It takes years to get medicine to the market. I just don't see it happening. Just getting the FDA to review all the data AFTER all the development and testing can take years to months. :twocents: I like the guys enthusiasm. He's in Phase 1 of 3
Last week, the FDA granted approval for the National Institutes of Health to begin the first stage of clinical testing in a vaccine developed by National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci and his team, which could take up to 18 months to prove safety and effectiveness.

Sure under typical timetables. But I imagine RD & testing could be drastically accelerated if a war like footing was adopted with $$ being no object and people working on it 24/7...

Anyway, the CEO claimed between late 2020 and 18 months..

I try to keep one premium bourbon and one cheaper brand on hand at all times. I also support local Delmarva breweries, especially Third Wave and Mispillion.
