The legislation is fair game for this thread, Appy, because it is directly related to the global warming topic.

Anyone who has the faintest understanding of what little we do know of climatology understands that Nashville's record low temperatures neither prove nor disprove human-caused global warming. If you look at T-man's body of work on this subject, that is his basic point - that we don't know what we don't know.

The FARCE is anyone trying to claim that they know all the "truth" on global warming, a crime for which the envirowackos are responsible - not T-man.

So stop feeding me poison pablum about global warming that I don't want and handing me a tax bill for it. (..not YOU, of course, Appy ;) .)
What you and T-man skim over (like it didn't exist) is that there is just as much money today in the counter global warming game as their is in GW pimping....

There may be a bevy of con men on both sides, but the money spent on proving GW DWARFS the money being spent on the counter-GW campaign.

Boys, boys... please
Oil companies have been keenly aware of climate change as a potential problem since the UN Conference on Human Development in Stockholm in 1972... and have actively developed and forwarded a marketing strategy or facade to protect themselves, their industry and their corporate image from that day forward... over time as regulatory pressure was introduced their strategies and corporate images (facades) have changed.

Please keep in mind:
ExxonMobil, Shell, and BP are among the largest companies in the world - irrespective of sector. In the prelude to the UNFCCC, these companies were united in their opposition to binding climate targets and have moved in harmony on an international level to dismiss Global Warming assertions / observations / calculations or even suggestions of corrective action... Any action on global warming other than complete dismissal was seen as a threat since the oil industry earns its livelihood from oil, gas, and coal—the main sources of emissions of greenhouse gases.

So is the Global Climate Coalition (GCC) a bunch pf duche-bags..?
why yes they are Johnny thank you for asking

Since being bullied both BP and Shell have (since 1998) acknowledged the problem of human-induced climate change in accordance with the prevailing assessments of the scientific bodies of the United Nations and now those two companies are (mysteriously) in favor of the Kyoto Protocol and have adopted GHG emission targets in their publicly announced business operations.

But..!!!

Privately they create and fund websites hire and finance scientists give book grants donate money create boards commitees anything they can to introduce confusion and discredit any findings contrary to their industrial and resource distribution and developent strategy...

In sharp contrast to these two European companies, ExxonMobil has continued to openly oppose mandatory greenhouse gas regulations. Exxon willingly took the "bad guy" position of the big threee as their credibility was already vastly compromised (for so many reasons it's not even worth pointing out) this vocal out front anti- GW position by Exxon afforded SHELL and BP cover and time (two things the oil industry seriously needed) to build their defense without a spotlight on their activities...

Exxon to this day proudly grabs the headline and fronts the battle for all three companies, while Shell and BP play the "we're green card" and secretly fund the majority of the counter GW spin...

Nice analysis. We should not have to remind ourselves that corporations have no consciences, and will play any side that gives them an advantage.

The word "human" could sometimes be substituted for Corporation in your post...
These corporations are "in business" and that is quite simply about making money = Money is king

Unusually low readings have been recorded across much of the eastern U.S. except for the Deep South, said Jim Angel, a climatologist at the University of Illinois, where NOAA's Midwestern Regional Climate Center is based.

Average temperatures in Illinois are about 6 degrees below normal, he said. If current patterns continue, the summer could be among the five coolest on record. July averages in northern Michigan have been 5 to 8 degrees below normal, said forecaster Jim Keysor of the National Weather Service office in Gaylord.

The explanation is simple: The high-altitude jet stream has been south of its normal position. It has enabled cool, dry Canadian air to command the skies east of the Mississippi while blocking warm, moist air flows from the Gulf of Mexico.
So, KYJelly was right....but the question is, WHY has the jet stream remained south of it's normal position?
