Delaware is supposed to do that later today as well. I understand Washington (state) already did it. Basically food and medicine stores are all that will stay open.
I couldn't listen to all of Hogan's presser, but definitely restaurants and bars, gyms, theaters... grocery and gas will stay open.

Oh yeah, gas. Forgot that.

Setting aside debate on the need for these measures, our economy is fucked.

Yup. So many hourly employees will be broke by the end of this, if they're not already.

If S Korea is the testing measuring stick:
S Korea 8,236 cases, 75 deaths = about .9% mortality rate.
US ______ cases, 70 deaths = about .9% mortality rate.

That would mean ballpark 7700 US cases if were testing like the S Koreans (and had about the same mortality rate), but US only showing 3,837 cases, about half that. Obviously are missing a ton of cases due to not enough testing, but probably not a factor of 10x like some suggest.
Hitting a nursing home can skew the statistics. Depends on the demographics of who catches the virus.
True. But there's probabaly not 10x cases (40k) out there. If there was, we'd have a shitton more deaths and ICU.

But what about beer and liquor stores? That's all still separate in MD right?

Outside the northeast, a lot of states at least sell beer & wine in their grocery & convenience stores. Thank goodness PA just started recently doing that. Local grocery store just started selling beer & wine few months ago. Some of the Wawas & Royal Farms now do too.

Compare Germany and Spain, 2 countries not so far apart.

Germany 6672 cases, 14 deaths
Spain 9428 cases, 335 deaths

From what Hogan said
shutdown of all bars, restaurants, movie theaters and gyms in Maryland, effective at 5 p.m.,

The order limiting gatherings to 50 people applies to social, community, religious and recreational or sports activities.

Sunday, Hogan also ordered the shutdown of the state’s casinos, racetracks and off-track betting parlors
Hogan’s order would allow drive-thru, carryout and food delivery service to continue.

Grocery stores, banks, pharmacies, gas stations and other essential services would remain open.
https://www.baltimoresun.com/coronaviru ... story.html

Sounds typical of what a lot of states are doing. So far PA gov has ordered similar for the 4 surburban Philly counties, but not the whole state.

Very true. However, we do have beer/wine stores not owned by the county that don't sell food, so I think those will stay open.

The government sure is taking their time stealing the American healthcare system away from private owners. Then grab the medical companies and oil companies.

They have to get this done ASAP because in 2 or 3 weeks this will all be gone and they will have lost the leverage they created.

Yup, 89Jr saved up all summer for his trip to Breck to which he was supposed to fly out last night. Airlines only giving credit for their airline, problem is they were flying two different carriers out and back, so only will get $125 from each... worthless to a kid that doesn't fly very often other than ski trips (have to use in next 6 months). Breck will be refunding lift tix. Housing, TBD. Rental cars, TBD.

The Federal Reserve on Sunday slashed interest rates to zero percent and announced it would purchase $700 billion in bonds and securities to stabilize financial markets and support the economy.
Benchmark rate was cut to zero. The range is mentioned separately as 0%-.25%.

Am I misunderstanding benchmark aka base rates?

You’re initial post you didn’t specify ‘benchmark.’
I simply said “I thought I heard .25%?”

I did hear .25%- the ‘target’ rate from 0% to .25%

That sucks.

My daughter (in HS) is upset about not being able to ski during spring break, but at least she's been up there quite a few times. It's a lot worse if you had to plan a trip and then it gets shut down.

This year I would have saved money if I hadn't bought a season pass. I wasn't able to go up as often earlier this year. My schedule looked like it was settling down so I could get some extra days in between now and the end of the season, but I guess that won't happen.
