Local TV interviewed several HS seniors who were whining about their senior years “being taken from them.” Sample: “We worked so hard! It’s not fair! What about prom?”

1st World problems. It does suck for them but in the grand scheme of all the bad sh!t happening around the world it's a rather minor inconvenience.
Yes, it's not the end of the world, but the impact on seniors in HS and college is real, especially athletes who are being robbed of perhaps their last chance to play meaningful sports or drama students who will never make it professionally. It more than sucks IMO.

NCAA is adding another year of eligibility for spring athletes, and discussing doing the same for winter athletes.

He does have gear from each campus visit. I'll have to get him to do something dramatic to raise the entertainment level in the house.

Sure it sucks for them, but pales in comparison to what happened to HS seniors in 1942.

Another reason to tap the brakes on using Italy to make predictions...

https://www.npr.org/2020/03/19/81797498 ... ss-china-s
Some question why Italy was caught off guard when the virus outbreak was revealed on Feb. 21.

Remuzzi says he is now hearing information about it from general practitioners. "They remember having seen very strange pneumonia, very severe, particularly in old people in December and even November," he says. "This means that the virus was circulating, at least in [the northern region of] Lombardy and before we were aware of this outbreak occurring in China."
So basically, it's possible this thing had already spread to Italy before the Chicoms knew what was going on or at least before they admitted it.

Highly, highly likely it had spread to most countries before China knew it or admitted it. I'm not entirely convinced I didn't have it when I returned from my cruise in mid-December. Tons of foreigners working that ship and on that cruise. And I had every symptom of Corona Virus while on that ship and for several days afterwards.

We were were generally following Italy's trend, just a week or two behind.

Now, we're off that trend... for the worse.

It's likely it had been in Italy before they realized it. It's also probably the case here. And, it was probably in Italy a week or two before it was here.

What does the deaths trajectory look like? Last one I saw it was above Korea and Japan but well below Italy in China. I don't trust the graph for the number of cases because there's no way to know what level of testing has been done.

Looking at case data is worthless if you are trying to understand the magnitude. Same with death rates per cases.
The number of cases is not accurate.
Deaths are probably not accurate but a heck of a lot closer to reality.

My thought as well. Also how is the testing different from country to country.

My wife returned from San Diego and had the dry cough and fever most of December and into January. Might be on to something. I had a mild cold or whatever towards the end of her's.

No, each country isn't the same. Look at South Korea, for example. Do you think think it's just some sort of coincidence that most countries are following a similar arc? And, exceptions like South Korea is testing heavily and having fewer cases?

Two weeks ago, Italy had 100+ deaths and began shutting down school and closing down the country.

March 4: Italy orders closure of all schools and universities due to coronavirus
All major sporting events to be behind closed doors until April as national death toll hits 107

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ ... oronavirus

2 weeks ago we were thinking they had it rough and it wouldn't be like that here. Two weeks later and we're right where they were then.

It could all be coincidence, but to me it is likely that we will be looking at Italy's current situation again in 2 weeks.
