Holy shit she can’t possibly be that stupid?
The amount of time we can shut the economy down is far less than what some are considering ideal.

At least without creating a depression that will erase more cumulative years of life expectancy than the pandemic will. At some point you've got to put the keys in the ignition and start it all back up.
Don’t disagree but there’s a decent percentage of people who still think/hope this will be a couple of month’s change and then back to 2019. That ain’t happening and there’s a chance/maybe almost certainty that this effects us for years both culturally and economically.

Well, it's great that you love somebody who is doing a really shitty job during this crisis with that response being a manifestation of that. Just what we need. Someone who acts like a 10 year old in the President's position while we're dealing with this.
This isn't that big of a deal so who really cares?

Had to move HI5.5.1 out of her dorm yesterday since they are now shutting down campus for the rest of the semester. Her dorm has 800 residents and we were 1 of 5 moving out during the time we were there. Glad I went yesterday instead of waiting until this weekend. Also moved one her friends home with us since her friend has a somewhat f'd up home life and really didn't want to move back home.

We've been through that. There is no evidence in the case data that what he did made a difference of any practical significance. Again: Canada specifically made a decision NOT to do what he did at the time. As of now, according to the information at https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/, Canada has 29 cases per million population. The United States has 59.

There is absolutely no evidence in the data that shutting down China travel when he did had an impact of any practical significance.

One thing that has become clear...and which was suggested by previous research...is that travel bans do not have big impacts. It makes people feel good. But other things are much more important because by the time you start thinking about a travel ban it is too late. And Trump didn't think about those other things. He just did the travel plan and did the "done" hand swipe thing thinking he'd solved the problem.

You know - a couple days ago reporters were asking Trump why he calls it the Chinese virus. Instead of blowing up, he gave a pretty good response - as long as the Chinese are suggesting that our military brought the virus to China, he will continue to call it a Chinese virus.

It would have been counterproductive to slam the reporters, and as we saw, when Trump doesn’t go off on his stream of consciousness rants, he can occasionally nail the answer.

The NBC reporter who asked him this question actually thought he was throwing Trump a softball - to give him a chance to reassure listeners - and Trump went full asshole. He is starting to get some positive opinion on his handling of all this and when he goes into Alex Jones mode it is counterproductive.

He needs to get a thicker skin because it was a question that would have also been asked of Obama, Bush or Clinton and it wasn’t out of line

Look people. At some point anybody with a brain needs to admit that Trump mishandled this. And anybody with a brain needs to admit that he is continuing to do so. Stuff like insisting on calling it the "Chinese virus" when he knows a bunch of people are offended by that. And he knows that a bunch of people will be offended by it. There is no reason to do it. Or stuff today like attacking the reporter. He is dividing the country when it needs to be united.

For weeks his response was to try to say it was no big deal. It was nothing compared to the seasonal flu. That sort of thing. It's not nothing compared to the seasonal flu. It's already stressing hospitals in some areas of the United States to an extent that doesn't happen with the seasonal flu. King County Washington has leased two hotels to handle extra cases and is in the process of building another facility. That doesn't happen very year with the seasonal flu.

He's said nobody saw this coming. Plenty of people saw the potential of this sort of thing coming.

He's just been a total fail on this.

I understand exactly what is happening. I live it every single day, for many, many hours a day at work.

And 18 months from now this country will be in a depression, thousands of businesses bankrupt, millions and millions of people unemployed, etc., etc. if we allow these draconian measures to continue more than about 21 days, and it’ll all be a moot point.

Trump:
If there was only a tax break I could give me and my buddies to fix this crash...
or maybe I should completely deregulate a few more things and spend more to spur business confidence

That's it... those are his three solutions to every problem / tax breaks / deregulation / spend more
and frankly it worked great

Sadly he won't get the credit he deserved
He'll just go down as a rambling petulant twat

Just an update here in CA:

This lockdown is a farce. So many places of work are deemed "essential". My kid's daycare is still open and on the way there, saw plenty traffic. I'd say it's just a tick lower then when school is normally out in the summer. So it got me thinking: Is this even worth it? We won't see if these actions really "bend the curve" for a few days to a week or so so who knows. And if it doesn't help "bend the curve" then the gubmint just shuttered the economy for no reason whatsoever. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...

...oh and any over and under on how much longer until mass looting hits? I saw London and Paris are already seeing looting so I figure we aren't too far behind them in that respect.

If a virus originated in America, and the US govt covered it up for a month, eventually causing a worldwide pandemic, does anyone doubt the whole world would be calling it the “American Virus”?

While this virus doesn’t have anything to do with most of the Chinese people, it originated in Wuhan, China. And the Chinese Communist govt covered up, obfuscated, and silenced people for a month. What we are dealing with now is a direct result of actions (or inaction) taken by the Chinese communist govt. The world should be constantly reminded of that.
