BTW I hate how the worldometer site took off the "critical cases" count from their USA breakdown. Aside from death count, the rest of their info is pretty useless.

His mom said he did not have any known issues that would have put him in a higher-risk category. I wouln't be surprise if it turns out there was a pre existing condition. Also there's always going to be freak exceptions, like the 20 something athlete who drops dead of a heart attack, and people are like WTF?

Worldometers currently has of KNOWN cases 96% are mild, 4% critical, and almost of them are older and/or underlying conditions. 99% of fatalities are over 50, and 99.6% are over 30. 99.1% had a pre existing condition. Has anyone in the world under 30 with no pre existing condition died?

The university has taken some steps to help slow the spread of the virus. Gatherings in campus buildings, including a handful of classes still holding in-person meetings, are capped at 10 people in accordance with an order by Gov. Ralph Northam.

Similarly, dining halls are only providing take-out service and campus visits have been suspended.
Falwell, who has publicly downplayed the threat of the virus in recent weeks, said he is confident the school has taken the proper steps to prepare for a campus outbreak. He said Liberty officials have identified an old hotel owned by the university as a place to quarantine students who fall ill.

“I think we, in a way, are protecting the students by having them on campus together,” he said. “Ninety-nine percent of them are not at the age to be at risk and they don’t have conditions that put them at risk.”

Ha! Flyover Country FTW!
Wuhan had a very high concentration of cases and they could be special in that they now enjoy some herd immunity.

But in places where “flattening the curve” measures seemed to be effective- those measures prevented a lot of people from becoming sick. Now they are experiencing a second wave. Both Hong Kong and Singapore are heading up again.

It may well work for Wuhan right now, but in places like flyover country we are going to need a vaccine or an antiviral treatment before anybody can breathe easier.

US was more prepared for pandemic than any other country, Johns Hopkins study found

The United States was ranked the best-prepared country in the world to handle a pandemic in late 2019 by the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security (JHCHS) -- an assessment seemingly at odds with claims by Democrats that the Trump administration left the country vulnerable to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The Global Health Security Index was was "developed with guidance from an international panel of experts from 13 countries, with research by the Economist Intelligence Unit" from 2018 to 2019, The Washington Post reported last year. "More than 100 researchers spent a year collecting and validating publicly available data.”

Now we just need to pass the bill to find out what's in it.

Hopefully none of the Green New Deal crap Pelosi was trying to jam in this package is included.

I would not be surprised if someone has already posted something like this but I don't have time right now to check before I post.

As a society we do accept deaths in exchange for convenience and/or economy all the time. For example: Banning motor vehicles would keep 10s of thousands of people from dying in motor vehicle accidents every year. But we would never agree to ban motor vehicles. It would be too much of an impact to the lives we are accustomed to.

I can remember reading an analysis during the 1990s weighing the public health impact of proposed regulations vs. the public health benefit. It included an estimate of the deaths that would result from job loss to the deaths expected to result from the cause the regulations were addressing under a business as usual scenario.

So the concept of considering the public health impact of economic disturbance is not out of line.

I just don't trust this Administration to objectively and effectively engage in such an exercise.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Yet to be determined if he had pre-existing conditions, even though he had tested positive for COVID-19

LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles County health officials backtracked Tuesday on their announcement that a child died from coronavirus, saying it’s possible the death was caused by something else.

During their daily briefing, the county health department said the unidentified child from the city of Lancaster was among four new deaths.

Hours later, after Gov. Gavin Newsom had cited the death of the teenager as evidence the virus can strike anyone, the county issued a new statement.

“Though early tests indicated a positive result for COVID-19, the case is complex and there may be an alternate explanation for this fatality" and the case will need evaluation by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the statement said.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Catholic Charlestonians won't be able to attend Mass in person for the foreseeable future.

On Tuesday, Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone announced that all Masses would be suspended "until further notice."

However, the diocese said it would continue to livestream its services, including those during Holy Week and on Easter Sunday.

“COVID-19 is a serious virus that continues to spread across our state,” said Bishop Guglielmone. “By continuing our efforts to bring the faith into people’s homes, we can safeguard everyone’s health while giving members of our flock the opportunity to participate in Mass and other devotions.”
