That would actually be good news. At current about 1.5% mortality rate in the US to recorded cases, 2 million recorded cases would only be 30k deaths.

On 2/27 on the Death Pool thread I predicted 4 million cases/50k deaths, a 1.25% mortality rate.

Yeah that makes no sense at all. If you have a proper fishing license, are by yourself at a remote fishing spot, getting fresh air, sunlight, solitude, maybe some exercise if you had to hump it a ways with gear, good for you mentally, catching your own food supply (so maybe one less trip to a store), that is illegal until 4/8? :suspicious:

Pennsylvania grocery store out more than $35,000 after woman intentionally coughs on food
A grocery store in Hanover Township, Pa. says a woman, who the police know to be a chronic problem in the community, purposely coughed on fresh produce and a small section of its bakery, meat case and grocery section.

Gerrity's Supermarkets said there is little doubt the woman did this as a "very twisted prank," but it is taking no chances with the health and well-being of customers so all of the products the woman came in contact with were thrown out.

It is estimated that the value of the food thrown out will be well over $35,000.

Gerrity's Supermarkets is working with the district attorney's office and have been told that it will be aggressively pursuing numerous charges against the woman.

The actual 2.4 million is just Minnesota, peak in 14 weeks. This will give the state time to build up ICU capacity. Unless there is a vaccine or treatment, this virus will run it's course. The main issue is hospital beds for cases are taken for 7-14 days, that's why they are dragging it out with shelter at home and lock downs. Cases in an ICU have a 10 times great chance to survive.

I don't see what's shocking. As new information comes out, numbers are released, days go by, etc.. for something that's new to our species and has never been studied before I would be suspicious if reports were NOT being revised. :coffee:

AB InBev diverts sports and entertainment spending to coronavirus aid, releases ‘One Team’ ad
Anheuser-Busch InBev today announced it will redirect $5 million that it normally spends on sports and entertainment marketing to the American Red Cross to support the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The donation comes as the sports world remains shut down.

The brewer, which describes itself as the nation’s largest sponsor of live sports and entertainment, also pledged to work alongside its sports partners to identify arenas and stadiums that can be used for temporary blood drive centers. AB InBev will also make available to the Red Cross its tour centers in Merrimack, New Hampshire and St. Louis. Additionally, the brewer will donate media air time to the Red Cross for public service announcements.

https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/26/tech/dys ... index.html
Dyson has received an order from the UK government for 10,000 ventilators to support efforts by the country's National Health Service to treat coronavirus patients.

James Dyson, the company's billionaire founder, confirmed the order in a letter to employees shared with CNN on Wednesday.

"A ventilator supports a patient who is no longer able to maintain their own airways, but sadly there is currently a significant shortage, both in the UK and other countries around the world," Dyson wrote.
Dyson said the company had designed and built an entirely new ventilator, called the "CoVent," since he received a call 10 days ago from UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
That's impressive.

Especially considering Dyson got his start by reinventing the wheel barrow.

Yep. Not a bad thing at all. It’s going to vary from population center to population center, region to region based on containment, mitigation, and suppression strategies alone.

Political boundaries are semi-arbitrary. For instance every fisherman in E WA is pissed right now about the closure and yelling why they can’t leave it open over here when it’s mostly a Seattle problem that doesn’t effect their county that’s the size of Rhode Island with a population of 12,000. Meanwhile, Spokane numbers are approaching breakout concerning hospital beds and Idaho just across the border has done nothing until yesterday.

It took one case in the Kirkland WA Life Care Center for it to explode. I’m guessing that center is around the same size as many rural hospitals.
If we did reopen, what could happen?

Poland:

It doesn’t make any sense to loosen restrictions during an epidemic. You’re fundamentally choosing economics over our lives. Let’s say you live in a community with a 200-bed hospital. They have five to 10 ICU beds, half of which are used for heart attacks and everything else. So maybe they have five beds and five ventilators. If you admit one person a week, you can give great medical care. If you admit 20, 50, or 100, mortality rates shoot up.

It means your hospitals are overrun. People are on carts in the hallways, and they die in the hallway waiting for medical care. There aren’t enough ventilators, IV fluids, doctors and nurses. It’s a scenario you never want to see. So if everybody goes back to work, people start dying in droves.

Both Italy and the US are likely to pass China for total REPORTED Cases. Since the Virus probably circulated awhile in Wuhan and other areas, there were likely tens of thousands if not more unreported cases

Minnesota Governor said they expect 2.4 million cases in Minnesota, peak expected in 14 weeks. Without shelter in place, 6000 people would have needed 235 ICU beds in Minnesota in 9 weeks. Governor hopes this helps the ICU capacity get close to the point to service all that need ICU. They are expecting the Pandemic to last a year to 1.5 years.

Agreed. I am grateful that the Louisiana "stay home" order allows "outdoor activities." There is no reason to say that I can't go fishing by myself away from everybody. One thing I have considered is that I don't want to take the chance that my truck would break down on a relatively long road trip to fish. That means I am having to nix the annual pilgrimage to Lacassine Refuge. But there's no reason to say somebody can't go fishing per se.
1 case in a rural hospital the size of the Kirkland, WA Life Care Center has the potential to decimate an entire small town. That’s why it’s not just a “Seattle, NYC, or Chinese” disease. Normal fishing trip = gas pump, c-store for beer, bait, jerky, and tackle, rest area if your on the highway, hand rails and other hard surfaces at the dock or launch, restroom at the launch. Not to mention the face to face encounters with c store workers or extending your exposure beyond immediate family by going with a buddy. That’s what the unedumacated redneck dicks around me and in Idaho and Montana fail to grasp.

It’s not that you or I wouldn’t be responsible about or choose to avoid places with a potential for community spread, it’s the other yahoos. It’s tough to enact State-wide law for only the smart or low risk people.
