The Great Onerous Curtailing of Our Freedoms Thread

Post by kalm »

Since we have a geographically varied slice of Americana here, it would be interesting to compare what rules, regs, and measures have been imposed where you live?

I’ll start....

Cheney, WA:

No fishing
No hunting
No golfing
No more than two people at a time allowed in the post office
Plexiglass screens for grocery store cashiers
Safeway open only for the elderly from 6-9 on Tue and Thur
Schools closed
No gatherings over 10 people

What you got?

Our beach is closed and the snook should be starting to run about now. That's enough to cause me angst.

They just need to be like Costco - draw lanes that everyone has to stay in :)

I actually think Louisiana's Governor is striking a reasonable balance. You can see the details of his order at https://gov.louisiana.gov/home/.

One aspect:
People can leave their homes to do things like buy groceries or food, pick up medicine or go to work if their job is essential. If you have to go out, make sure you practice social distancing measures and keep 6 feet between you and the people around you. Also: people are encouraged to go outside and to stay active during this time, as long as they practice social distancing when they are around their neighbors.
I interpret that to mean I can go fishing. And I've gone twice so far since it went into effect. The order certainly doesn't prohibit fishing by yourself in a kayak.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

I'm pretty sure that in Louisiana you could go out to the beach and fish as long as you maintained the 6 feet thing.

Wouldn't fishing qualify as getting food?

Only if you catch Chesapeake blue crabs in Louisiana.

It’s not that you personally would compromise other people in your boat it’s the behavior of other unaware fishermen. Touch a gas handle, grab your beer and worms at the convenience store, touch a rail, dock, or restroom at the launch etc. New Orleans’ level is increasing like Florida and with intrastate travel alone there’s a high risk for community spread.

The public still lags weeks behind understanding how bad this can strain each location’s healthcare system. That’s the real threat. Beds, masks, respirators and testing to infection rates and deaths are the hard numbers.

Yeah. The beach accesses are gated, chained and locked. The thing that irritates me is that when it comes to beach renourishment time, they classify our community beach as private and they skip over us. Only public beaches are supposed to be closed, so why are we now all of a sudden considered public?

Ultimately we are a law abiding society and our enforcement systems are set up that way - even the worst cities in America only have about 4 police officers per 1000 residents.

These rules are really on the honor system and will take some civic responsibility on the part of citizens and residents to work, because there is no capacity for enforcement if a plurality of people decide they are just going to hit the beach, or whatever.

When all this is over I am sure there will be plenty of videos of cunts who we can shame and drive into hiding/exile and TBH I look forward to it

So basically no different than going to the gas station to fill your tank or get groceries at your local store.

Correct, but it’s one less instance of contact and decreases community spread further.

Not sure what you mean? I can go camping/fishing/hunting/hiking if I want. I live in Montana. Also, Montana is not currently accepting applicants.

Montana's behind, right? You'll hear about the virus in 5 years, and it should get there a few years after that.

I stopped for fuel this evening, put on my nitrile gloves, got out of the car and observed while pumping diesel. I did not see a single other person with gloves on. I saw four people grab gas handles and touch touchscreens without gloves. I saw about ten people grab the door handle into the convenience store without gloves. I saw three people grab the door handle to the liquor store without gloves. This was in about a five minute window.

People are really fucking stupid.

I don't know if I'd call it stupid, or if you need gloves for everything.

As long as you can get between opening a door handle and disinfecting your hands without touching your face, you should be ok. I mean a terrifying amount of people can't do that, but I wouldn't say anyone touching common surfaces with their bare hands is stupid.

True - at least right now there is no evidence that our skin is permeable to this virus

That said, the apparent transmissibility rate possibly suggests that we do secrete the virus into our sweat glands.. so definitely keep that purell handy

oh and the skin on the genitals IS permeable to many viruses so now I only touch my dick BEFORE I shake hands
