Because I lost a shitboat of money on a tele-med company some 20 years ago. They had all the gizmos. I thought it was great. Then fraudulent activities occurred within the company and went bankrupt. I got a tiny fraction back through class action litigation. :ohno: :ohno:

 I saw this as the wave of the future. But poor execution by the company killed it (and by poor I mean fraud).
Here we are 20 years later and the thing is still not widely used. I think it is because of the cost of equipment and Medicare/Medicaid does not want to be on the hook for it. I should have thought that through a bit more. :ohno: :ohno:

Also, this was when Fauci was fucking me in the ass over HIV/AIDS treatment. That cocksucker did some shady stuff.

Well this virus fallout may be the trigger for a sea change in how business is done, so to speak.

89Henette getting furloughed probably tomorrow. She's a 4th grade teacher and the school is going to merge classes to do online. Just glad she has one month to go on her lease and hasn't signed a new one yet. Looks like we'll be back to not being empty nesters (Jr is home now).

Probably not, because if we don't slow the spread, then you will see a worse collapse in the long run.

Will we? What's worse? 200,000 deaths in America (a bad flu season) or the destruction of our economy and loss of millions and millions of jobs and businesses and the entering of a months/years long depression?

True, but they kept producing the Jets at the same rate. So while they are being parked until they can be delivered, the amount of work hadn't decreased.

They were willing to gut out the 737.

It's now the slowdown of the airlines that's the concern, because orders will be delayed or cancelled.

200,000 is not a bad flu season. Most years it is 12,000 to 50,000. 2018 was the worst year in decades, because the vaccine wasn't as effective as normal, and 80,000 died.

What you fail to grasp if Covid-45 is left unchecked, you will have vast segments of the economy shutdown solely due to lack of healthy workers. Think power, water, etc.

Does she not have an employment contract for the school year? Here the teachers all get paid for their contracts through the end of the school year even though they aren't teaching.

She does have a "contract" but AFAIK it's at will, and I've always been under the impression that at will meant you could quit or be fired. The one thing I did make sure she let them know was that they DID owe her some pay because she's on the 12 month plan instead of 10. I knew she wouldn't save the money for the summer months (but she has a summer job). By my calculation they owe her about $4600 for being on the slow pay. :thumb:

I would check on that contract closely. Our teachers are at will but it basically means they can't be fired or laid off during the school year without cause. State law requires us to tell a teacher by mid April if they aren't going to be renewed for the next year so they can look for a job for the next school year. You'd think out in liberal land where you are there would be even more protection for teachers.

Does she have a union or teacher association or other type of collective bargaining?

Every time I see this argument in favor of shutting down the economy, I think of that scene in the Big Short when the college dudes are cheering their big windfall and Brad Pitt's character goes into a rant about how many peoples lives are ruined by 1% increase in unemployment. At a certain point people are just going to have to go back to work.

That sucks for 89Henette. When this is over there will still be a shortage of teachers so she just needs to weather the storm and there will be opportunities.

Teacher's contracts usually offer more protection than standard state laws but if it's early in her career she might still be in a probationary period.

You can talk to and provide lessons for 50 students but you can't really monitor their progress and provide specific instruction for that many students who will be at different places in understanding the lessons. It's going to suck for teachers with 50 students when it comes time to grade papers, tests, etc. unless everything is going to be multiple choice and t/f. And it's going to suck for the students whose education could suffer.

A couple of years ago I told a teacher that we weren't far from online lessons with remote teachers and they told me I was crazy. Of course, I thought the students would still be in classrooms initially with teacher's assistants monitoring behavior but you could easily group students with similar abilities in a subject together in a virtual classroom that would make it easier for teachers to move at a good pace for everyone. A huge challenge in the classroom is not holding the top students back vs. not letting the bottom students fall further behind.

Good luck!

By the time they get to late middle school or high school there's no way to do it other than ability-grouping - you can only hold back the inevitable so long.
