:suspicious:
1. The states have been far more REactive then PROactive.
2. The states have their responsibilities, and the federal government has their responsibilities. The only problem is that an event like this overwhelms both the state and federal governments. But most people don't know where the dividing line falls. It's just easier to blame the federal government.
 Okay man, how's this? The states reacted quicker than the federal government. And in NC, local governments reacted quicker than the state did. Either way, the truth remains the same. And you are correct in that it is more within the purview of the state and local authorities to restrict activities, and this did catch pretty much everyone off guard with its speed.
Florida is turning around cars with plates from NY and NJ. Spokane and Wa state overall are flattening the curve sooner than just about anyone else thanks to being proactive. Meanwhile across the border next to my county, Idaho was late to the game and is allowing non essential activities like golf and fishing to remain in place. They are accelerating which creates the potential for a resurgence here from their residents coming here and our golfers and fisherman going there and bringing it back.

Then you have federal decision making as to who gets disaster aid and supplies on a state by state basis which has unfortunately been tied to politics.

Don’t think there’s there’s a federal solution at this point but greater federal leadership and quicker acknowledgement wouldnt have hurt.

Is fishing in Idaho really contributing to the spread? I've never been to Idaho but my impression is it's pretty big and you could be fishing all day and never see another soul. I walk during lunch at work every day at a township park in PA and, on a sunny day, I could walk past 20-30 people during my walk.

1) Points of contact and community spread through travel, gas station stops, public restrooms, carpooling with asymptomatic people, etc. Not everyone takes it seriously and then a county of 22,000 gets their rural hospital compromised.

2) Post Falls and Coeur d’ Alene are basically a part of the Greater Spokane Metro Area.

You can’t base it all off of things like arbitrary state lines, population, or the precautions you being a reasonable person would take. It’s the other idiots of significant number.

The virus doesn’t care.

“The county confirmed its first coronavirus case on March 14. Five days later, on March 19, Gov. Brad Little ordered the county to self-isolate -- the first such order in the state. Just a week later, the number had jumped to 82.

Ketchum fire chief Bill McLaughlin said that about 10% of his team of 52 staffers and volunteer firefighters and paramedics have contracted the virus, forcing him to send healthy first-responders home with ambulances to await calls rather than congregate in a station. His station's call volume has doubled, mostly with coronavirus emergencies.

"We've been quite a bit busier than normal," he said.

As early as February, McLaughlin said he and other officials braced for a surge in Blaine County, given the number of tourists that flock to the region. He stockpiled supplies, such as surgical masks and gowns, and duct-taped plastic in ambulances between drivers and patients, to protect his staff.

The virus spread quickly. Health care workers began getting sick. Two of Idaho's four coronavirus deaths occurred in Blaine County. One was a hospital volunteer.”

More evidence we need better leadership from the feds in a time of crisis.

That should have been frozen earlier.
According to the Politico article have frozen already promised PPE aid to 13 countries, as we should (take care of America 1st, esp since we don't have ample supply as of now, and are 2-3 weeks from projected peak). Yet there apparently are people (no party given) who are complaining about that, like we should still be sending PPE to other countries..

We did send shipment to China in Feb, but getting shipments from China now. 1st of 22 loaded cargo planes of PPE arrived Sun (NY), Chicago (yesterday), Ohio (today).

Read elsewhere that the head of USAID, former conk C stepped down 2 weeks ago. Maybe because they were still sending PPE aid to other countries.

Don’t disagree. Im glad we’re not China and I recognize the slippery slope of increased autocracy. The fact this comes from Bloomberg News is not lost on me.....

https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/artic ... st-in-time

I guess it depends on whether one wants to believe the experts that this poses an existential threat which places us on wartime footing. I haven’t read much of people bitching about their inability to golf or fish during WWII and blaming it on politics. Maybe it was there?

BTW, I’ve noticed you upping your gif game and I like it!

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/3 ... aid-157806
Last week, a Trump administration official working to secure much-needed protective gear for doctors and nurses in the United States had a startling encounter with counterparts in Thailand.

The official asked the Thais for help—only to be informed by the puzzled voices on the other side of the line that a U.S. shipment of the same supplies, the second of two so far, was already on its way to Bangkok.

Trump aides were alarmed when they learned of the exchange, and immediately put the shipment on hold while they ordered a review of U.S. aid procedures. Crossed wires would only confuse our allies, they worried, or worse—offend them. And Americans confronting a surging death toll and shortages of medical equipment back home would likely be outraged.

Vice President Mike Pence soon realized another step was needed: After a phone call asking a foreign leader’s help with key supplies, he ordered his staff to make sure the review process wasn’t holding up coronavirus-related aid to countries that were assisting the United States.

The incidents have spurred the Pence-led coronavirus task force to scrutinize all of USAID’s deliveries to countries requesting personal protective equipment (PPE) needed to fight the outbreak, according to people directly involved in the discussions, causing tensions between aid officials and task-force members.

The administration has also placed a moratorium on overseas shipments of USAID’s stockpiles of protective gear and is asking that the equipment be sent to the U.S. instead, other officials said.

Sounds like they need a competent leaders/administrators/project managers who can see the big picture but also understand and coordinate the many activities that have an impact.

Weren't you just bitching YESTERDAY about not being allowed to fish?

Now you're all in on the fucking commies in Washington overstepping their bounds? :dunce: :dunce:
I haven’t bitched about fishing at all. I totally understand it. And I want to fish...bad! Just tied some great soft hackle patterns. You don’t even fish and you’re angry.... :suspicious:

I swear to god...conks are some of the biggest pussies about this whole scenario. ‘I want to go fishing...I want too play golf...you don’t understand!!!!!!!’

Who would you rather be and which one has a better chance to get back to the new normal sooner without threat of hospital overruns and second wave infections (the majority of Spanish Flu deaths) DFW, Florida, or Seattle Metro?

I missed that one. :ohno: He also had "lay" instead of "play" and I was going to make a quip about some of the better looking LPGA players.
