But because I live in blighted urban area, or very close to US Route 40. ECB, this thread is just a way of making the 20% of the population feel better about them selves. Fuck you and Carol Bickens!
Who's trying to feel better about themselves? :-P

And I live in a metropolitan area with a population of almost 2.5 million people and moved here from the 3rd most populous metropolitan area in the US.

Sue me for finding subdivisions of cookie-cutter homes a depressing wasteland. And I don't care if those homes are on a fraction of an acre or a full acre+ and cost a million dollars, mcmansions are customized monotony.
Dude..!!!

Stopping there makes your statement valid. Including a word of which you continue to ignore the definition is where you go astray.

Merriam Webster defines Wasteland as
1: barren or uncultivated land
2: an ugly often devastated or barely inhabitable place or area
3: something (such as a way of life) that is spiritually and emotionally arid and unsatisfying

I find cookie-cutter, suburban homes to be spiritually and emotionally arid and unsatisfying. Don't like it? Tough.

I read that to be an example of something that could be considered under definition #1. A desert wasteland is not the only kind of wasteland no matter how much you want to fixate on it and limit the definition to your worldview. :-P

160 acres of urban wetlands and native prairie grasses hosting a variety of species from threatened yellow headed blackbirds to, great blue herons, to badgers, to waterfowl nesting, to various aquatic invertebrates. Less chemical per acre input than the average lawn. Serves as a giant water filtration system\swale for surrounding developments.

It's very close to becoming residential. :|

It's an example of the first definition. There are two other definitions.

The first definition is also probably a pre-Industrial Revolution definition when anything that wasn't cultivated was considered barren. Congratulations on being pre-Industrial!

Son of a bitch!

Golf in Spokane ain’t like Chicago, ya newb. I have people bitching over $24 senior rates. It’s a jeans and t-shirt, Miller Lite affair. The surrounding development consists of military, teachers, and dry wallers.

If the course goes under it will become a 800 unit mixed residential development that destroys habitat and will use 3 times the water.

We've had this conversation. We agree that golf should be more accessible so I will concede that public golf courses might be acceptable. It's the private ones with socioeconomic barriers to entry that are really wastelands. :kisswink:
