I would then convince them how wrong they are.

I can be cordial with anyone, and generally I am.

I was raised that way, but being in law enforcement and now dealing with US citizens in various crises has reinforced that.

I used to tell my patrolmen:

Whatever you do on this job, do it nicely.

When you have to help Buffy change a tire, do it nicely.

When some tourist asks you a silly question, answer nicely.

When you put the cuffs on someone, do it nicely.

Even if you have to whip someone’s everliving ass... you can do it nicely.

Years back Dell had a data breach and scammers were using the information to call Dell customers and tell them their machines were hacked and they needed money to fix it.

I got a call from the scammers many times and usually hung up on them but one time when they called I had some time so I decided to take on a "ghetto" persona - pretending to shout and argue with someone else because "you dun got my computa hakt" and intentionally misunderstood the instructuctions about how to send payment via iTunes card. Basically wasted some of the guys time and got some poops and giggles.

I'm pretty much the same way.

I've also had a couple of people I've encountered where a mutual dislike occurred immediately. Kind of like when two dogs walk into a room and the hackles on their backs go up and the growling commences. Not really rudeness, just open dislike.

Me too. Mine just happens to take years and years to turn on. But once on, man can I hold a grudge. Ask my sister and her family or the long time customers I’ve booted who’ve asked for forgiveness.

Your method is far more efficient CID. I’d be one of the cops who’d let people talk themselves into jail when you’d already have them on the ground in cuffs....nicely of course.

Yup, this sums up my position as well. If I think I'd be rude to someone I generally try to avoid them entirely. I don't do rude well so better just to avoid it if I can.
