Make America 1929 Again

Post by Aho Old Guy »

Thanks, GOP ! (that's sarcasm republican'ts don't grasp) The Grand Ol' Party has gone from cloth coats to Fascism, and "I do not take responsibility at all"

You were warned, but Republicans don't do soft landings. The GOP blames everyone but themselves. This week: Dims, Obama & China

You were warned when the GOP cut interest rates 3 times between July-October of last year, cut them twice more, and now essentially has cut them to zero. There is no room to cut interest rates anymore, and DO NOT 'negative' the rates (there will be runs on the banks, yah Queens hillbillys ...)

You were warned in September of last year of the 'glitch' (LOL) -- when overnight accounts would not close at central bank rates. The Fed had to intervene -- pumping hundreds of billions of dollars into the financial system while proclaiming this was not quantitative easing (LOL II).

Do Republicans remember Smoot-Hawley ?
(Apparently not.)

You were warned about the perils of quantitative easing. Beginning in 2008, the Fed pumped 5x the cash to capital reserves to keep markets solvent and avoid another Great Depression. In 2020: 8x- to 10x beyond the QE beginning in 2008. (Who knows?) This is monetizing the Federal Debt, and when the fu ck will it stop yah freakin' dip-stick Chowder Heads?

Republican'ts in 2020: "Deficits Don't Matter!"
(snicker)

Republican'ts in 2020: "Bailing Out - GOP Socialism FTW!"
(snicker Part Deux)

You were warned: Corporate debt is at a record level of 35 percent of corporate assets.
You were warned: Stock buy-backs / $2 TRILLION over the last 2 years
You were warned: 15%+ of US corporations are Zombies / upside-down
You were warned: You will not win a currency war with China
You were warned: Happy Days ! Corporate Tax Cuts of $1.9T ! (eye roll)

What else?

I find it funny that the people complaining Trump didn't do enough soon enough and wants to reopen the economy too soon are going to complain about economic fallout from the pandemic.

The not quite QE from Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell has increased the balance sheet one-third in 3 weeks -- to $6.1 Trillion. It was $3.7 Trillion last August.

You were warned :suspicious:
Volcker Rule

The Volcker rule generally prohibits banking entities from engaging in proprietary trading or investing in or sponsoring hedge funds or private equity funds.
Over the last few years the "lines have blurred" between investment and retail banking operations and Volcker. Last Summer our good buddy Fed Chair Jumpin' Jerome proposed new rules to ease restrictions (in August, of course) -- and in January new regulatory changes to venture capital funds and CLOs ('collateralized loan obligations').

Gosh. Imagine that.

I will say that it is possible that if Trump had proceeded according to what was suggested by previous research we might not have had to shut down as we did. He did horribly mishandle this situation as a result of thinking that he could do a partial travel restriction then all would be cool. All of the stuff that was done to ramp up testing could have been done a couple of months earlier than they were done.

It's quite possible that the economic situation we are in now wouldn't be what it is if Trump hadn't screwed up. No way to know for sure. The only way to know for sure if if we could go back in time, see what would happen if we responded along the lines of the way South Korea responded, and seen what happened.

But I don't think there's any question that Trump really whiffed.

This is the same “data driven” dork who not too long ago said he didn’t think this was much different than the flu

I’ll say this for Trump ... horseshit may continually cone out of his mouth but he appears to be continuing to take the advice of the experts on his response team - the partial China travel ban being one of those

March 3, S Korea over 5000 cases, US 124 cases. SK uses cell phone tracing and alerts for covid 19. Is that legal in the US without permission?

Fauci is suddenly a rock star. He certainly knows a lot about things like this. He's been working on disease spread for decades. But he has a controversial history. He is alleged to have done some shady stuff in the late '90's and ealry '00's with regard to HIV/AIDS. There is no evidence of any inappropriate behavior with this, though. I just don't think he is immune to mistakes and corruption. I'm trusting that the intense criticism he took 20 years ago is keeping him straight.

Nobody is perfect.

I saw something today where he is thinking schools may not reopen in time for fall.
