Re: Coronavirus
I understand the measures, but now we're at the point (or will soon be) in which a decision will need to be made to allow society to go back to "normal". But there won't be a vaccine so how long do we hold out? How many more people have to lose their jobs in that time frame?Ibanez wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 8:18 am
Let's not conflate stop gap measures with a cure.
Staying at home, social distancing, cancelling Spring 2020 are stop gap measures to slow the spread of a disease that 1) we have never encountered; 2) have zero treatment for; 3) have zero immunity against; and 4) have no cure. We've taken drastic measures for sure.
But what was the alternative? Letting millions more getting infected and put even more strain on our healthcare system for treatment of a disease that we have no vaccine or proven treatment for? Seems like there were two bad options here.![]()
Let's not forget that the economy is health in that it provide wealth to buy healthcare, medicine, well being, etc.

Sorry, this is all on China. Let's not lose sight of the culprits here.Ibanez wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 9:06 amThe healthcare system has come under strain in trying to treat and respond to this as well as the normal healthcare issues. I didn't say it was in every single hospital system nation wide.AZGrizFan wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 8:26 am
What strain? Doctors and nurses are being furloughed across the country. With the exception of NYC and a couple other hot spots, this whole thing is a big giant flop. There’s no “strain” on the system. Ventilators are being sent back. Beds are empty. And the economy is in absolute fucking shambles.
There was only ONE bad option here, but it involved ceding freedoms and control to the US government and they made the outcome look bad enough that we took it, hook line and sinker. What happens with the next novel virus? We shutting down the country again?
There were 2 bad options. Thanks Trump.
I don't see you and BDK and the other "republicans" chiding Trump. If this were Obama, it'd be " Obama is destroying the country." " Obama is so far out of his depth". Maybe I missed it. I'm just trying to keep you, honest.
Actually, this is exactly what we should expect from a business man that has gone through multiple bankruptcies.![]()

NYC leadership will have a lot to answer for because of their poor response to the Chinese Flu. Encouraging everyone to go about their normal lives into March was not the right call.

Re: Coronavirus
Because people have had this with zero symptoms. And then there are the people that have had mild symptoms. None of those people in those categories were ever in danger of dying.
Re: Coronavirus
Mild/moderate for a middle-aged person means you only had some combination of several weeks worth of fever, walking pneumonia, trouble breathing, and you didn't get hospitalized.
AZ is in his late 50s, and if I remember correctly, is quite overweight, with high blood pressure to boot, no? Not fucking something I'd want to be rolling the dice on

Then those people at high risk can keep their asses inside and let everyone else go about their lives. And again, it's a numbers game
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512
3 9 27 81 243 729 2,187 6,561 19,683
4 16 64 256 1,024 4,096 16,384 65,536 262,144
Maybe someone like AZ only has a 10% chance of being hospitalized (best case scenario). You limit the number of AZ's you know that are infected so that x number of them aren't put in that situation.

No, because this is America and everyone is a retard and selfish and considers themselves invincible. Not that such a black and white cutoff makes any sense anyways.SDHornet wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 1:04 pmThen those people at high risk can keep their asses inside and let everyone else go about their lives. Re: Coronavirus
My point still stands. Yes I understand their are going to be people vulnerable to the Chinese Flu. I have a handful of them in my immediate family (old, pre-existing health conditions). Doesn't change the fact that they need to take extra precautions and not at the expense of other people's rights. I get it, it sucks, but at a certain point people are going to have to get back to their lives without a vaccine on the books.Silenoz wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 1:08 pm And again, it's a numbers game

Re: Coronavirus
Back to their lives. By all getting infected at the same time. That's how many hospitilizations at 10% of those who are infected? 5%? 3%? How big are Sacramento's hospitals?
There's a reason a White House with the most economy-obsessed President in history, and a huge number of Republican governers, have had no choice but to eat crow and backtrack on this shit.

Fair enough.
I guess I’ll have to wait to get a straight answer.

I don’t necessarily disagree. I’ve got friends that are terrified of how they’ll pay rent or feed their kids. How much of this is an overreaction? Due to poor response?SDHornet wrote:I understand the measures, but now we're at the point (or will soon be) in which a decision will need to be made to allow society to go back to "normal". No fucking shit. I'm not good at math, data analytics, graphs, etc, and even me and Trump now get it. It's amazing how many people don't. You will see more of this coming over the next few months as the self centered unstable geniuses continue to lose their shit.Silenoz wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 1:23 pm Back to their lives. It's gonna have to be a staggered approach. Start opening business back up, but "recommend" people wear masks and keep apart from one another.Ibanez wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 1:44 pmI don’t necessarily disagree. Its not because of poor response it poor planning on their part. Not having a savings account but 10 cell phones, tattoos and 5 vehicles are all fully funded.Ibanez wrote: ↑Fri Apr 10, 2020 1:44 pmI don’t necessarily disagree.
