Wow. There actually was some buzz around here for the Defenders. Some, not much.

Gambling is legal now. Those degenerates will miss it until it pops back up again in another form.

Ok... I know you guys will crush me for this...but the USFL actually had a good model and was doing pretty well until SOMEBODY made a bad move and attempted to take it to the fall to complete with the NFL and killed it.
Well, I believe that I must tell the truth
And say things as they really are
But if I told the truth and nothing but the truth
Could I ever be a star?

Stop it - Trump slightly speeded up the demise, but it was always going to fail, just a question of when. At some point in time you knew that, but you went with the TDS answer anyway.

Actually I don't know that it would've failed with its model. It was working pretty darned well. And it was able to attract what turned out to be NFL hall of fame caliber talent. Reggie White and Jim Kelly were USFL players before that league collapsed. It wasn't like this XFL thing. They had a lot of legitimate NFL caliber players.

It has nothing to do with a syndrome. Trump screwed it up. That's just the truth.

You should realize when you don't know enough about a subject and just let it be, rather than double down on dumb and keep pursuing a wrong path. Why did Dixon, the architect of the USFL, sell his share and leave the league a full year before they even started talking about moving the season to the fall? The USFL was already in dire straits long before that decision - they were bleeding money as too many team blasted through their salary caps by trying to compete with the NFL, too many teams had stadium issues as again, they were competing against the NFL who already had established stadiums, and too many owners were stretched thin even from the get go. That's why there were tons of ownership changes and team relocations in the first two years alone. Heck, the Panthers were something like $6M over the $1.8M salary cap in the first year alone. And attracting those stars (especially Herschel Walker, who's contract had to be written as a team employee rather than a player to fit that kind of money in) was speeding up the demise of the USFL. Trump didn't help the situation, but all he did was speed up an already out of control freight train on its way to dissolution. I loved watching the USFL, but it was not viable, Trump or no Trump. Speak of what you know rather than just letting your syndrome pull you around by the nose.
