That was unexpected. I was expecting to have to somehow file for it or something .. or at least sign on the line somewhere and I wasn’t planning on doing it.
Frankly, all government workers are still getting paid. I’m no worse off today than I was 3 months ago. In fact, I’m saving money right now- more than normal. There are people who aren’t working and are having to start wondering how they’re going to eat. I realize it was easier to just do a blanket deal for everybody, but a big chunk of change is going to people who aren’t out of work.

What would an acceptable deaths per day range be, for the government to open the country back up. It appeared we had reached a peak, and then a new daily high yesterday of 2500+ deaths in 1 day.UNI88 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 7:22 amIt's simple to a simpleton. Mine just hit today - basically the $500 per kid portion.
Like another poster said, my income hasn't been impacted yet, so some of this is being donated locally to a food bank. I'm sure I'll spend some more locally as well.

I'm guessing there would be a net gain if you had a 19yo that is no longer considered a dependent as they would get a bigger check than you would get if you received a "per child" check?
It just dawned on me that my 97yo mother might be getting a check. Unfortunately, she owed taxes (less than $100) each of the last two years so I wrote a check rather than having it electronically withdrawn. So I guess that means she will get a check in the mail later this summer, if she gets one at all. Silly. She is not impacted either.

The funniest thing in the movie is in that scene with the prisoner in chains clapping to the song.

Re: Coronavirus
My understanding is that if the 19 year old is not a dependent they would get their own check. But any dependent 17 or above you don't get the $500 for them. I just filed my 2019 taxes last week so I'm guessing they used my 2018 taxes to calculate my amount. I'm going to have to look because the amount deposited is more than I was expecting.CAA Flagship wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 8:11 amI'm guessing there would be a net gain if you had a 19yo that is no longer considered a dependent as they would get a bigger check than you would get if you received a "per child" check?

At this point we don't need this either. We've been getting takeout more frequently to try help the local restaurants and will continue to do so with this money.

BTW, something is not right with this IRS thing. 89Jr got a deposit into his account. One, I don't think he qualifies and two, he's never done direct deposit with the IRS. How would they get his account info?

Do you think the Task Force that is supposed to decide when to open the economy has enough competent economists and scientists to come the decision balancing science and economics you were advocating for?
The Task Force doesn't have a single scientist. It has 1 economist. It has both Kushner and Ivanka.

It’s all tribalistic infotainment. Journalism does not require balance. It’s up to the consumer to read between the lines and be skeptical of everything.

Yep. And the biggest mistake we can make is attempting to separate economics from healthcare.Skjellyfetti wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 8:51 amYou must be new here. Welcome to cs.com.

The twitter-verse has gone off the rails humiliating her. It's good.
Trump White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Wednesday uncorked a scientifically illiterate rant about the coronavirus in which she blamed the World Health Organization for not having the situation better under control.
“This is COVID-19, not COVID-1, folks!” Conway said during an interview on “Fox & Friends.” “And so you would think the people in charge of the World Health Organization facts and figures should be on top of that right now.”
In reality, the “19” at the end of COVID-19 denotes it as a strain of the virus that was discovered in 2019, rather than marking it as the 19th overall strain of the virus.
