Nah. I don’t see Tripz and his hardy generational band going for this. They’re nihilistic and wouldn’t want to see this country elect anyone who’d prevent them from getting free stuff.

Can we just change your name to Knee Jerk? I was responding to Silenoz saying that most of Trump's base would be happy. You're so blind.

Wait, who is "they"? I thought you were a republican.JohnStOnge wrote: ↑Wed Apr 15, 2020 4:34 pmNo. The reality is clear. If everybody who is eligible to vote votes, that is bad for Republicans. They know that. So they spend a lot of time trying to prevent many people who are eligible to vote from voting.

I maybe going stir crazy, but if those three were the line-up that doesn't sound like a bad idea.

In fact, I think this would be a great time to EXPAND how people can vote. Maybe make it a week long affair, allow nationwide mail-in ballots, increase the number of polling places, etc. All which increase voter participation while assisting in social distancing.
But hey, I hate Democracy.

I agree with Trip on this one. There are ways it can be done and it's an opportunity for both sides to get some things they want (increased security in exchange for increased access).∞∞∞ wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 8:07 amThere are other solutions than simply cancelling or postponing an election.

I know every state is different but in Iowa if you can't find vote it's because you're either lazy or stupid. Besides election day we can request absentee ballots and they will be mailed to your home. Return postage to the election officer is included so it's no cost. They have early voting at the county courthouse during regular business hours plus Saturdays before the election (I think its up to a month before).

Same in ND and SD, and very similar to what I remember of MN. I haven't set foot in a polling place on Election day since I first voted.HI54UNI wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 10:20 am I know every state is different but in Iowa if you can't find vote it's because you're either lazy or stupid. Re: Trump Needs to Suspend the 2020 Election
Where I live in my little section of PA, voting is easy. But trip and UNI are right, voting is not as easy as it should be everywhere. Even in PA, just a county over, you see stories about a certain township where they have people waiting in lines for hours to vote (where I live, even in the busiest of elections, I've waited a max of 5 minutes). In some places I'm sure it could be partisan-based why the voting is difficult, but in most cases it just comes down to how effective the local government is. Local government basically decides where precincts are, where polling places are, how they get equipped and manned, and all of those things dictate how easy voting is. It's incredible how much people don't get involved in local politics as it's at this level, not the Trump/Pelosi's of the world, that most of the actual work of government is done. You can bet if I chose to live in a place where I had to stand in line for an hour to vote because of a lack of precincts and crappy planning, that I'd be in the audience at the next township meeting to raise holy hell.Winterborn wrote: ↑Thu Apr 16, 2020 10:23 amSame in ND and SD, and very similar to what I remember of MN. With that said, I'm also in favor of opening up mail in ballots as well to a wider segment, but as we've seen even recently, this can be really manipulated (the GOP guy in NC sending in fake ballots and the ballot harvesting done out in CA by Dems). If we can come up with sensible ways to ensure that mail in ballots don't get altered or manipulated, then I'm all for greatly increasing voting via that method. Until then, though, I'm fine with opening polling places for longer (say a week at a time) to make it easier to vote. If you can't get to a polling place once over a 7 day period I don't know what to say.

We also have a 3 or 4 day early in person voting, in addition to absentee ballots. The polling places for those are not in every precincts, but most of the city is no more that 10 minutes from any of them. There is one less than 2 minutes from my work if I chose to go there. Also my work will give you up to 2 hours to go vote.
Local government, a microcosm of our state and federal governments and the people we elect to those positions.

If you are downtrodden then you have nothing but time to vote but you probably are not smart enough to choose wisely, you will just choose whomever SAYS they will give you the most free shit.
